Position Description
Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit a Underground Development Manager to join and grow our team. This role is responsible to oversee and direct all activities related to the development of underground mining operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective construction and maintenance of underground infrastructure.

Responsibilities:
- Technical expertise and overall management of the development activities of the mine.
- Managing the assignment daily tasks based on the mine plan and ensuring all activities are completed safely, efficiently and to standard.
- Monitoring team performance, providing coaching, and enforcing company policies.
- Mentoring supervisors who are conducting pre-shift meetings to ensure work plans, safety updates, and equipment status are discussed.
- Ensuring all mining activities adhere to mine safety standards, mining regulations, company policies, and local laws.
- Conducting regular workplace inspections to identify and mitigate hazards and ensure work is being performed to industry best practice.
- Having oversight to ensure incidents, near misses, or equipment damage are fully investigated and appropriate corrective actions are in place to prevent recurrence.
- Reporting incident findings to senior management.
- Ensuring that mining supervisors are instilling the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and enforcing safety protocols and standards.
- Mentoring mining supervision in coordinating drilling, blasting, mucking, and haulage operations to maintain development targets.
- Overseeing the safe and efficient use of mining equipment, including jumbo drills, loaders, haul trucks and ancillary equipment.
- Troubleshooting operational challenges and making real-time decisions to keep development on plan.
- Verifying ground support installation (rock bolts, shotcrete, wire mesh, etc.) is completed as per engineering standards.
- Verifying that ventilation, dewatering, and power systems are functioning correctly.
- Coordinating with maintenance teams to ensure all machinery is in working order and addressing breakdowns promptly.
- Liaising with mine managers, engineers, and other supervisors to align shift activities with overall mine planning.
- Reviewing shift reports are accurate.
- Identifying opportunities for process improvement and innovation to enhance safety, efficiency, and productivity in underground development.
- Assisting the management team to lead emergency response efforts in case of accidents, fires, rockfalls, or ventilation failures.
- Making quick, informed decisions to resolve unexpected issues underground.
- Work in compliance with ISO 14001 and 45001 Standards.
Qualification Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related field is preferred, however, extensive underground mining experience in a similar leadership capacity may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
Experience and Skills Requirements:
- 10+ years’ experience in underground mining, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior operational or leadership role focused on development activities.
- Proven experience managing underground development teams and meeting production targets in challenging conditions.
- Strong familiarity with Sandvik DD421 and DD422i jumbo development techniques, including optimal utilization and maintenance considerations.
- Demonstrated expertise in underground infrastructure planning, including ventilation, dewatering, ground support, and utilities to support efficient development.
- Leadership experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing frontline supervisors and technical professionals.
- Solid understanding of mine planning and scheduling requirements.
- Experience in remote site operations or FIFO rosters and working with multicultural teams is desirable.
