Job Summary

The Project Director (Contractor's Representative) serves as the primary liaison between the contractor and the client, ensuring the renewable energy project is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with technical, environmental, and social standards. The role oversees contract compliance, regulatory requirements, and international best practices while leading multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities / Duties

1. Leadership & Project Oversight

  • Provide strategic leadership for all contractor teams (engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning).
  • Represent the contractor in executive meetings with the client, financiers, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Align contractor activities with the project execution plan and client expectations.
  • Approve critical project plans, schedules, and budgets.

2. Contract Management & Liaison

  • Act as the primary contractor representative to the client.
  • Ensure compliance with contract scope, quality, cost, and delivery timelines.
  • Manage variations, claims, and contract change requests.
  • Track milestone achievements and escalate issues where necessary.

3. Project Delivery & Execution

  • Oversee engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning operations.
  • Ensure full adherence to technical specifications, renewable energy standards, and safety protocols.
  • Monitor contractor and subcontractor performance and progress.
  • Promote efficiency, innovation, and global best practices across teams.

4. Health, Safety, Environment & Social (HSES)

  • Implement and enforce robust HSE management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and social mitigation plans.
  • Lead community engagement programs in collaboration with the client.
  • Cultivate a strong safety culture and risk-awareness environment.

5. Quality Assurance & Control

  • Ensure QA/QC systems align with project specifications and international standards (e.g., IEC, ISO).
  • Approve inspection and testing plans.
  • Oversee resolution of non-conformities and promote continuous improvement.

6. Financial & Commercial Oversight

  • Manage project budgets, cost tracking, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure financial transparency and compliance with client and funder requirements.
  • Optimize costs without compromising quality or safety.

7. Risk Management

  • Identify operational, technical, financial, and environmental risks.
  • Develop and implement mitigation and contingency plans.
  • Maintain risk registers and escalate critical risks to senior leadership.

8. Stakeholder Management

  • Maintain relationships with clients, authorities, regulatory bodies, and communities.
  • Provide transparent communication on progress, challenges, and solutions.
  • Support local content initiatives, skills development, and employment of local workforce.

9. Reporting & Governance

  • Prepare and submit timely reports to contractor leadership and the client PMO.
  • Participate in steering committee meetings and key decision-making processes.
  • Oversee lessons-learned reviews and post-construction performance evaluations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Renewable Energy, or related field); Master's degree (MBA, M.Eng) preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of project management experience in solar, thermal, hydro, or other energy sectors.
  • Experience in constructing PV plants with an aggregate capacity equal to or greater than the project size, including at least one plant ≥30% of project size.
  • Proven leadership of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong contract management and negotiation skills.
  • Solid understanding of renewable energy standards, regulations, and HSE practices.
  • Experience with large-scale or transnational infrastructure projects is an added advantage.
  • Strong financial management and risk mitigation capability.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, including work with communities and regulators.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an added advantage.
