Position Overview

The Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) and Nutrition Coordinator will support the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) and Nutrition interventions across assigned regions or councils. The role ensures quality program delivery and supports capacity-building efforts to improve maternal and child health outcomes. The MNCH and Nutrition Coordinator works closely with regional and council health teams, implementing partners, and health facilities to ensure effective execution of MNCH and nutrition activities, adherence to national guidelines, and timely reporting.

Key Responsibilities

The MNCH Coordinator will:

  • Provide technical advice, direction, and quality assurance and support high-quality technical delivery of MNCH and Nutrition activities under the ACHIEVE project in Tanzania.
  • Ensure that MNCH and Nutrition activities are aligned with national and global guidelines, standards, and protocols.
  • Coordinate with national implementing partner(s), government, and other stakeholders to ensure that activities are planned, implemented, and monitored in line with the annual work plan.
  • Coordinate and supervise the activities of the NIP Regional MNCH and Nutrition Officers to ensure timely, efficient, and effective adherence to all work plan activities.
  • Support government Master Trainers in training of Facility Champions as needed.
  • Support and monitor Facility Champion coaching and mentoring activities at the health facility level.
  • Provide any other forms of required technical assistance, supportive supervision, and mentoring for ACHIEVE/Tanzania, NIP(s), government, and facility or community health providers as needed.
  • Monitor implementation of MNCH and Nutrition activities in Tanzania to ensure timely completion of objectives and targets.
  • With support from ACHIEVE Deputy Director, develop relevant deliverables (quarterly or annual reports, field project evaluations, work plan updates, etc.) in conjunction with other key staff, partners, and stakeholders, ensuring that the technical achievements, best practices, lessons learned, and innovative models, if any are well documented.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Basic Requirements

Education and Experience: Tanzania job market

  • Bachelor’s degree and 6+ years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Other local education and experience: Medical degree, Nursing/Midwifery degree, or bachelor’s degree in public health or related field.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in public health, Global Health, Health Systems, or related fields is an added advantage.
  • Experience in MNCH and Nutrition programming, including national-level coordination or leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience working with the Ministry of Health and national MNCH and Nutrition structures.
  • Relevant work experience in at least one of the following technical areas: Maternal Health, Child Health, Nutrition, HIV services, and other health-related fields.
  • Experience with USG/PEPFAR-funded projects in Tanzania.
  • Experience in working with donor programs that require health facility and/or community-level engagement.
  • Previous experience working with international and local partners.
  • Experience working with subawards/CSOs in the implementation of the US/PEPFAR-funded programs.
  • Good training facilitation and delivery skills.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English & Kiswahili.
