Key Responsibilities

This role requires disciplined, inspirational leadership and effective management to ensure the highest levels of productivity and service excellence, with the &Beyond values at the core.

1. Leadership & Culture

  • Provide disciplined and inspirational leadership to the Serengeti Under Canvas team.
  • Ensure &Beyond values are actively engaged and nurtured within staff teams.
  • Mentoring and coaching Heads of Department (HODs) and junior managers.
  • Engaging with the people, the culture, the work style, and the expectation.

2. Operational & Asset Management

  • Regular assessment of the functionality, efficiency, and strength of all operational equipment, vehicles, generators, and buildings.
  • Structure and equipment: assessing, planning, budgeting, and repairing all buildings and equipment.

3. Business & Financial Management

  • Overall responsibility for budget creation and management.
  • CAPEX structuring and planning responsibility.
  • Business efficiencies: focusing on cost control and sourcing local produce.
  • Overall Day-To-Day Management of the camps (Under Canvas one and two), including all back-of-house departments.

4. Guest Experience & Product Development

  • Product development on guest experience: covering the lodge, food, game experience, and all guest touch points.
  • Hosting all Agents, Media, and VIP Groups.
  • Work directly with the Head of Housekeeping, Head Butler, and Camp Managers to ensure &Beyond Lodge and Service standards are always maintained.
  • Creating an environment where the &Beyond Golden Thread is continuously met and visible.

5. Human Capital & Development

  • Overall responsibility for all Human Capital in the camps, ensuring all labour relations, leave, and medical funds are managed correctly.
  • Maintaining and enhancing the Human Capital structure—understanding and adherence.
  • Create annual and monthly training plans for all departments.
  • Create and maintain a skills development plan, including external training and exchanges.

6. Stakeholder Relations

  • Relationship building with staff, guests, governmental departments, the community, and the industry (agents and other lodges).
  • Development: working with the Wild Impact in community development and proactive wildlife conservation in the Serengeti.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required

Knowledge (Qualifications or Training Programs)

  • Hotel Management certificate or related field.
  • Valid driving license.

Previous Work Experience

  • At least 10 years Management Experience in a 5-star operation.
  • Previous experience in running a five-star operation with over 20 beds.
  • At least 5 years Management Experience in East Africa.
  • Experience in the service industry, especially dealing with guests and staff.

Skills Required

  • Strong financial capabilities and Computer Skills.
  • Strong leader with good interpersonal skills and communication (with staff and guests).
  • Energetic, proactive, and compassionate, with a well-developed concept of world-class guest experience.
  • Attention to detail, diligence, and self-motivation to meet deadlines.
  • Lateral thinking ability and initiative.
  • Must be able to cope under pressure.
  • Willingness/ability to share information and teach and inspire others.
