Job Purpose

To support the implementation of the Inclu-Cities Project in Tanga by providing technical and administrative assistance to small and medium enterprises (SMEs), agribusiness clusters, and Rikolto's project team. The intern will contribute to enhancing SME business growth and formulization, post-acceleration mentorship, and effective coordination of cluster-level activities promoting inclusive urban food systems.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

A key responsibility will be guiding SMEs through business formalization processes, including registration with BRELA, obtaining TIN and tax compliance through TRA, securing municipal business licenses, and, where applicable, supporting registration with social security and health insurance schemes.

  • Assist SMEs in preparing and updating business plans, financial projections, and marketing strategies.
  • Support SMEs to implement mentorship and acceleration of follow-up actions.
  • Facilitate linkages between SMEs, financial institutions, and market opportunities.
  • Support coordination and data collection from the five agribusiness clusters (Amboni, Pongwe, Kange, Tangasisi–Masiwani, and Tongoni).
  • Organize cluster meetings, record proceedings, and compile reports.
  • Assist cluster leaders in production planning, marketing coordination, and collective business actions.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support during training sessions, mentorship sessions, and exhibitions.
  • Support monitoring and documentation of project activities and field results.
  • Contribute visibility materials, case stories, and social media updates.

Reporting & Learning

  • Prepare and submit monthly progress reports summarizing accomplishments and lessons learned.
  • Support data entry, verification, and analysis for monitoring tools.
  • Document and share at least three (3) success stories from SME engagements.

Expected Outputs

  • At least 10 SME business plans or profiles developed or updated.
  • At least 30 SMEs supported in formalizing their business
  • Monthly activity and progress reports submitted on time.
  • Three (3) success stories or case studies documented.
  • Accurate project monitoring data submitted in a timely manner.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Agribusiness, Economics, Entrepreneurship, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of SME development, agribusiness value chains, and market systems.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and report writing skills in English and Swahili.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Organized, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions

Location: Tanga City, with periodic travel to cluster/field areas.

Duration: 6 months, renewable based on performance and project needs.
