Position Description
Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit a Nursing Officer to join and grow our team. This role is responsible for assessment & Monitoring: assessing patient conditions by checking vital signs and performing physical exams and monitoring their progress and well-being. Medication Administration: Safely administer oral medications, injections, and intravenous therapies as prescribed by doctors.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Clinical & Direct Patient Care
- Assessment & Monitoring: Assess patient conditions by checking vital signs and performing physical exams, and monitoring their progress and well-being
- Medication Administration: Safely administer oral medications, injections, and intravenous therapies as prescribed by doctors.
- Medical Procedures: Assist doctors during examinations, surgeries, and minor procedures like suturing or catheterization.
- Wound Care: Assessing, cleaning, and dressing wounds to promote healing and prevent infection.
- Emergency Response: Deliver life-saving interventions by using advanced life support equipment such as defibrillators, ventilators, and ECG machines.
Ward & Unit Management
- Admissions & Discharges: Manage the process of admitting new patients and preparing them for discharge with follow-up instructions.
- Inventory Control: Indenting, checking, and maintaining stocks of drugs, linen, and medical supplies.
- Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate patient case records, medical histories, and nursing charts.
- Environmental Safety: Ensuring the ward is clean, tidy, and follows strict infection control protocols.
Supervisory & Educational Roles
- Staff Supervision: Oversee staff nurses, nursing assistants, and support staff to ensure standards are met as may be assigned by the charge nurse
- Clinical Teaching: Mentor assistant nurses and orient new staff to nursing protocols.
- Duty Rosters: Plan and implement duty rosters for nursing personnel
- License to practice: Ensure a valid license to practice
- CPD Training: Ensure compliance with the Ministry of Health by seeking training that fulfils the requirements of the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC).
- Health Information System: Be computer savvy in the use of the electronic medical records system.
- Professional Meeting: Attend annual professional meetings as assigned by the charge nurse
- Statutory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant Tanzanian OHS regulations and corporate codes of practice
- Data analysis and Reports: Prepare reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. Analyse data for meaningful trends and propose solutions and interventions.
- Company Policy: Comply with all company policies, standards, and procedures during the entire period of employment.
- Supervisory Assignment: Perform similar duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager
Patient Advocacy & Communication
- Education: Teach patients about disease management, nutrition, and lifestyle changes.
- Emotional Support: Provide reassurance and counselling to patients facing stress or terminal conditions.
- Advocacy: Ensure patient rights and preferences are respected in the clinical setting.
- Confidentiality: Maintain the highest code of confidentiality of privileged information that you may come across in the course of executing your professional duties, including patients’ information.
Occupational Health
- Audiometry: Perform a valid audiometry test as part of a routine medical examination and patient diagnosis or monitoring of hearing.
- Spirometry: Complete acceptable spirometry tests for patients and routine medical examinations.
- Optometry: Conduct vision screening for operators and drivers
- Medical Surveillance: Participate in conducting routine, monitoring, and special medical surveillance, including entry, periodic, and exit medicals.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND ATTRIBUTES:
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent from a recognised University.
- A valid TNMC registration in Tanzania
- A valid license to practice in Tanzania
- A valid driving license, grade E or better
Knowledge and Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience working in Emergency and Critical Care Nursing
- Extensive experience in Intensive Care Nursing
- Computer savvy
- Excellent knowledge of advanced nursing procedures
- Demonstrable technical ability to operate medical equipment
- A minimum of three years of experience in the nursing fraternity
- Knowledge of Tanzanian customs and legal process
