Descriptions

To assess the creditworthiness of loan applicants, conduct financial and business analysis, evaluate risks, and provide quality credit recommendations to support sound credit decisions and maintain a healthy loan portfolio.

Responsibilities

Credit Appraisal & Analysis

  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis of applicants including liquidity, profitability, leverage, and cash flow.
  • Review business models, repayment capacity, market/industry risks, and borrower character.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative risk assessment for individuals, SMEs, corporates, or digital lending applicants.
  • Identify early warning signs and highlight key credit risks with mitigants.
  • Prepare detailed credit appraisal reports and ensure compliance with credit policies and regulatory guidelines.

Due Diligence & Verification

  • Verify customer information, bank statements, legal documents, collateral, and business premises.
  • Coordinate valuation, legal documentation, and market checks.
  • Validate KYC/AML requirements and escalate red flags.

Credit Recommendation & Approval Support

  • Prepare credit proposals aligned with internal credit standards.
  • Provide well-supported recommendations for approval levels.
  • Engage with Relationship Managers to clarify gaps or request additional documents.

Portfolio Monitoring & Review

  • Monitor performance of approved loans and identify early signs of stress.
  • Analyze sectoral performance, customer behavior, and repayment trends.
  • Follow up on post-approval conditions, covenants, and documentation compliance.

Reporting & Compliance

  • Ensure all analyses meet Bank of Tanzania (BOT) regulations, IFRS9 requirements, and internal credit policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of credit files and update relevant systems.
  • Prepare periodic reports on credit quality, trends, and risk exposures.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Quality of credit appraisals and recommendations.
  • Turnaround time for credit assessments.
  • Reduction in credit exceptions and documentation errors.
  • Portfolio performance (NPL, PAR, early arrears levels).
  • Compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Accuracy of financial and risk analysis.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Banking, or related field.
  • Professional qualifications such as CPA, ACCA, CIBA, CFA are added advantages.
  • Minimum 2–3 years experience in credit analysis, lending, or financial analysis.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, cash flow analysis, and credit risk assessment.
  • Skills & Competencies Financial modelling and ratio analysis.
  • Knowledge of credit policies, lending principles, and credit scoring.
  • Understanding of BOT regulations and IFRS9.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High integrity and ethical standards.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and report writing skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
