JOB DETAILS:

The overall purpose of the role of Assistant 2 – Exploration within the Exploration Section is to oversee and handle daily non-technical exploration manual works related to geological field works, drilling activities as well as all tasks related to receiving samples from the field and preparation at Geology Core Yard. The role holder will be accountable for his/her own safety and safety of other team members

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ordinary Level Secondary Education.

EXPERIENCE:

• A minimum of 2 to 3 years working experience on Field Mapping, exploration drilling (Diamond & RC) or sampling tasks at Core Yard.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:

• Able to read and write, both Swahili & English.
• Physically fit to work at any geological environment.
• Able to cooperate and work as a team.

MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

• Have completed the required site inductions and able to follow and implement sitewide and work-related safety requirements.
• Able to conduct Take 5, identify and report hazards in the workplace and communicate to the team and immediate supervisor.
• Participate fully in toolbox meetings, take part in the discussion and be good understanding of the hazards and risks associated with the task being performed.
• Double-check and ensure all the sampling gears are available and loaded into the vehicle before departing to the field/work area.
• If working on tan RC rig, the role holder will ensure all the sample bags are prepared, well labelled and arranged for collection of samples according to meter intervals.
• If working on an RC rig, the role holder will ensure the samples generated are of good quality and the contractor is following the best drilling practices and sampling protocols.
• If working on an RC rig, the role holder will receive the samples collected from the cyclone by an offsider of the drilling contractor and arrange them in an orderly manner for easy checks and reconciliation on the meters drilled.
• Will immediately report to the supervisor any violations exercised by the drilling contractor that may lead to non-compliance and compromise the drilling qualities and standards.
• Will coordinate with his/her immediate supervisor or exploration driver and ensure all the samples have been collected from drill site to Core Yard.
• If working at Geology Core Yard, the role holder will prepare and process the samples according to the list provided in the sample sheet.
• If working at Geology Core Yard, the role holder will perform mass balance measurements on the samples and complete all the tasks related to samples recovery before shipping them to the lab.
• During the sampling process, the role holder will ensure all the QAQC materials have been inserted as per sample sheet guidelines and sampling protocol.
• Will provide support on offloading the samples from the field or loading the samples for shipment to the lab if asked to assist.
