Position Summary:
To support the finance function by maintaining accurate accounting records, processing transactions, ensuring compliance with financial policies, assisting in budgeting and reporting, and enabling timely financial information to support business decisions and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Record and post approved financial transactions (cash, bank, mobile money, general ledger) in the accounting system.
- Maintain bank, cash, petty cash and mobile-money records; perform bank, cash and float reconciliations on a timely basis.
- Process payments (supplier invoices, staff reimbursements, mobile transfers, bank transfers) ensuring all supporting documentation is complete (invoices, delivery notes, LPOs, timesheets, etc.).
- Ensure all payments are coded correctly, stamped “PAID” (or equivalent) and in line with company policy.
- Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable; follow-up on outstanding balances when required.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities: accruals, prepayments, ledger reconciliations, fixed-asset register updates.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for management, regulatory bodies and auditors.
- Support budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis: collaborate with department heads to monitor spending and highlight variances.
- Ensure compliance with Tanzanian statutory requirements (taxes — PAYE, VAT, NSSF; audit filings; banking regulations).
- Maintain and update internal financial controls, policies and procedures to safeguard assets, ensure accuracy of financial records and minimize risk of fraud.
- Support external and internal audits: prepare schedules, liaise with auditors, implement audit recommendations.
- Maintain an orderly filing and documentation system (both hard copy and electronic) for financial records, ensuring confidentiality and ease of retrieval.
- Provide ad-hoc financial analysis, recommendations and support to management as required.
- Other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Finance Manager.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent.
- Professional accounting qualification (CPA-T, ACCA, or equivalent) is an advantage.
- Minimum 2-3 years of relevant accounting/finance experience (preferably in Tanzania or East Africa).
- Experience in the financial services sector, banking, Microfinance or financial institution will be considered a plus.
- Good knowledge of Tanzanian tax laws, statutory financial requirements and regulatory environment.
- Strong computer skills: MS Excel (advanced), accounting software systems.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and a strong sense of integrity and confidentiality.
- Good analytical skills and ability to interpret financial information to support decision-making.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Good communication skills in English and Kiswahili (written and spoken).
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
