Job Purpose
A successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the Mechanical design & construction is in accordance with the Employers Requirements(ER) and provide a Mechanical point of contact for the Employers Team, Support the Project Site Execution Manager and Project Services Specialist to ensure the Employer has reviewed quality of Approved Construction drawings and as built drawings satisfy international construction norms & standards,

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a working relationship with the EPC Contractor to develop an opinion of the suitability of equipment for the distillery during fabrication at works and onsite.
  • Efficiently manage all aspects of the mechanical design, fabrication and installation onsite.
  • Ensure no basis for an EPC Extension of Time or Variation in cost claim due to engagement processes & decisions.
  • Understand the resourcing into plant with the Project Services Specialist and predict the outcome in accordance with the schedule and quality assurance.
  • Ensure internationally accepted quality and procedures for construction are met as per the Employers Requirements(ER) in the contract, good engineering principles, relevant codes and according to Illovo Engineering standards.
  • Tracks and monitor all witness and hold point activities identified in conjunction with the Project Site Execution Manager(PSEM) and ensure all resources are timeously mobilized.
  • Apply previous project management skills to ensure all the requirements of the ER are met during commissioning, trials, commercial operation and performance testing of the works.
  • Co-ordinate squad checking of drawings and P&IDs to ensure Operational Readiness teams  are introduced to the commissioning teams timeously and are trained as required to be able to operate and maintain the works after take over.
  • All working at heights is conducted as per Employers SHERQ standards.
  • Promote and adhere to the Project Charter, policies and guidelines including without limitation those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti Bribery and Corruption(ABC).

Qualifications And Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering with Project Management experience.                     
  • 5+ years of experience in Manufacturing and must have detailed knowledge of all aspects of boilers.
  • Large scale EPC project management and implementation experience specifically in Distilleries preferable.
  • Ability to interpret complex Execution Schedule and track progress accurately.
  • Experience in the sugar industry will be considered an added advantage.
