Position Details

Position: Chief Manager Sales and Trading Department: Directorate of Treasury Section: Sales and Trading Salary Scale: COBSS 11 Reports to: Director of Treasury Location: Dar es Salaam

Position Objective

The Chief Manager Sales and Trading plays strategic role in driving sustainable revenue growth and market share expansion through sales of foreign exchange (FX), money market, liquidity management, and derivative products. He/she will spearhead client acquisition and retention efforts targeting corporate, SME, retail clients, and strengthen the bank’s market position while ensuring full compliance with treasury policies, market conduct requirements and Bank of Tanzania Regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive treasury sales and trading strategies to achieve revenue targets, portfolio growth, and FX market positioning, including prospecting new clients and cross-selling opportunities with Relationship Managers;
  • Lead, coach, and mentor a high-performing sales and trading team, conducting performance reviews, training sessions on product updates, and fostering a culture of compliance and innovation;
  • Build and nurture strategic relationships with key clients, regulators, counterparties, and internal stakeholders (e.g., Credit, Risk, and Product teams) to facilitate seamless deal execution, onboarding, and service delivery;
  • Analyze local and global market trends, economic data, and competitive landscapes to provide actionable insights, market commentary, and customized advisory services to clients and internal partners;
  • Oversee the end-to-end sales and trading process, including proposal development, pricing accuracy, deal capture, and implementation, while ensuring all transactions adhere to Bank of Tanzania regulations, internal policies, and risk limits;
  • Monitor portfolio performance through regular reviews, identify opportunities for product enhancement based on client feedback, and collaborate with product teams to innovate treasury solutions;
  • Ensure robust risk mitigation in sales and trading activities, including liquidity, market access, and interest rate mismatch management, while promoting ethical conduct and governance standards;
  • Carry out any other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Holders of Master’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Commerce, Accounting, or a related field from a recognized university.
  • Professional certifications such as ACI Dealing Certificate, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA),
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in treasury sales and trading within a commercial banking environment at senior leadership role.
  • In-depth expertise in treasury products, including FX forwards/swaps, money market instruments and fixed income with proficiency in using Treasury management systems and Trading platforms such as Refinitiv/Bloomberg
  • Strong understanding of Tanzania’s Financial Markets, including foreign exchange dynamics, yield curves, economic forecasting, and balance sheet management principles.
  • Proven experience in consultative selling, client needs assessment, and portfolio optimization, with a history of achieving or exceeding sales targets in competitive banking environments.
  • Advanced risk management skills, encompassing market, liquidity, credit, and interest rate risks, including familiarity with hedging strategies and regulatory reporting.
  • Leadership experience in team development, including talent acquisition, succession planning, and performance management in a fast-paced treasury setting.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, market trend interpretation, and preparation of Strategic Reports for Senior Executives and Board.
