Job Summary:

The Workshop Manager is responsible for the overall efficiency, productivity, and profitability of the automotive workshop. This includes overseeing all repair and maintenance activities, managing workshop staff, ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety, and maintaining excellent customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operations Management: Plan, allocate, and supervise all workshop jobs to ensure they are completed on time, to the correct standard, and within budget.
  • Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and schedule a team of mechanics, technicians, and apprentices. Conduct performance reviews and identify training needs.
  • Quality Control: Diagnose complex vehicle issues and ensure all repair work meets company and manufacturer specifications. Conduct final inspections of vehicles before they are returned to customers.
  • Health & Safety: Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations within the workshop. Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
  • Resource Management: Manage workshop inventory, including ordering parts, tools, and equipment. Control workshop costs and optimize resource utilization.
  • Customer Service: Liaise with the service advisors and customers to explain repairs, provide estimates, and resolve any complaints or concerns.
  • Administration: Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all work orders, job cards, service reports, and warranty claims.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience (5+ years) as a Workshop Manager, Foreman, or Senior Automotive Technician.
  • In-depth knowledge of automotive systems, diagnostics, and repair procedures.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer relationship management skills.
  • Proficiency with workshop management software and diagnostic tools.
  • Relevant technical certifications (e.g., ASE, NVQ, City & Guilds) are highly desirable.
  • A valid driver's license.
