Job summary
The Transport Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising the organization’s transportation activities.
The role involves managing vehicle fleets, drivers, transport schedules, budgets, safety programs, and regulatory compliance to ensure efficient service delivery.
Key responsibilities
The Transport Manager will be responsible for the following duties:
- Develop and implement transport strategies, policies, and procedures.
- Manage daily transport operations and fleet utilization.
- Supervise and support drivers and transport staff.
- Ensure compliance with transport, road safety, labor, and environmental regulations.
- Monitor vehicle maintenance, inspections, and licensing requirements.
- Prepare transport schedules and optimize routes for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and customer complaints and implement corrective actions.
- Manage transport budgets, fuel consumption, and operational costs.
- Maintain accurate transport records, reports, and documentation.
- Conduct driver performance evaluations and recommend training where necessary.
- Coordinate with internal departments, suppliers, regulatory authorities, and external stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to company health, safety, and security standards.
Minimum qualifications
Applicants should meet the following minimum requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Transport Management, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certification in Transport, Logistics, Fleet Management, or a related discipline is an added advantage.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in transport or fleet management.
- At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
Required skills and competencies
The ideal candidate should have the following skills and competencies:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of transport regulations and road safety requirements.
- Proficiency in transport management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Financial and budget management capabilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet operational deadlines.
Legal and compliance requirements
The successful candidate must:
- Be legally eligible to work in Tanzania.
- Demonstrate knowledge of applicable transport, labor, health and safety, and environmental laws.
- Pass any required background verification checks.
- Comply with all company policies, including confidentiality, anti-corruption, and workplace conduct requirements.
