Job Title: Snr. Project Officer Social and Behavior Change Communication
Reporting to: Senior Programme Officer Health and Nutrition
Location: Mwanza

The recruitment will be part of the core implementation team for the improving Access to maternal and New-born health (IMPACT) project, which aims to improve access to and quality of maternal and new born Health (MNH) in Mwanza region. IMPACT is an ambitious initiative of Agakhan development Network (AKDN) supported by Global Affairs Canada. The project will be jointly implemented by Agakhan Foundation, Agakhan Health services and Agakhan University in Collaboration with the ministry of health and the Mwanza regional Administration and district authorities
Job summary
The snr Social and Behavior change communication (SBCC) Officer will be a member of the IMPACT project team and will work with the Mwanza region ministry of health management teams regional and local NGO partners, community organsations and other stake holders to achieve the implementation of an integrated health communication program encompassing Reproductive maternal, Newborn child and adolescents health (RMNCAH) family Planning WASH and Gender Equality

Specific responsibilities include

  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive demand generation strategy and related guidelines and tools that will facilitate the demand creation for reproductive, Maternal, newborn, child and adolescents health (RMNCAH) Family planning WASH and gender equality in all phases from design, media and materials production, community mobilization and evaluation
  • Developing pre-testing or reviewing technical resource materials such as SBCC strategy and plans training materials, job aids and programming tools accord on evidence-based theories and methodologies
  • Contribution to the development of the project annual work plan and the annual budget.
  • Conducting formative research to inform the development of targeted messages, and materials
  • Working with the MoH and implementing partners to design communication and messaging content.
  • Conducting capacity building activities including training and technical assistance to increase the effectiveness of government and other implementing partners to implement and damage creation programming.
  • Working with M&E staff to monitor and evaluate the quality, progress and impact of SBCC activities.
  • Working collaboratively with the community health coordinator, project officer and facility-level staff to create demand for MNH services
  • Documenting project results and impacts in various forms, including lessons learned case studies, client satisfaction and contributing to regular quarterly and annual reporting.
  • Sharing new knowledge/evidence and best practices from the project through relevant networks. Qualifications
  • Degree in health communications, public health, social sciences, international development, or a related field.
  • At least five years” experience in developing and implementing a behavioral change communication strategy, focusing on creating demand for community and facility-based health services in MNCH and any two of the following: RH/FP, AYSRHWASH, AYSRH, Gender Equality, social marketing projects that include a strong behavior change communication component.
  • Excellent oral anti written communication skills in English and Kiswahili
  • Articulate, professional, and able to communicate in n clear, positive manner.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing behavioral change communication tools and materials.
  • Experience in monitoring; and evaluation of health projects and operational research experience.
