Role notes
The role is responsible for leading the Agri Retail Credit Assessment team through credit risk management, assessment, administration, inspection, monitoring, and reporting. It supports a sustainably profitable Agri Retail Credit portfolio aligned with the bank’s strategy.
Key duties include:
- Managing retail credit personnel to assess business and financial risks in Agric Sector Value Chain credit applications.
- Leading and managing the credit assessment and approval team for Retail Agri-business borrowers.
- Maintaining high standards of credit quality.
- Advising Head; Retail Credit on potential or actual shifts in borrower or sector risk profiles.
- Managing credit analysis requirements for counterparty risk and issuer risk.
- Attending Credit Committees, Watchlist Committee, and Board Credit Committee as needed.
- Working with front office teams to identify and mitigate credit risks early.
- Leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Managing departmental staff performance.
- Developing models for Value at Risk, default probability, loss given default, and rating migration.
- Supporting credit approval packs and risk aggregation processes.
- Managing credit risk policies, procedures, audit assignments, IFRS 9 impairments, and portfolio quality initiatives.
Knowledge and skills:
- Retail credit, specialist asset management, business law, wholesale and retail credit.
- Technical business understanding of structured transactions.
- Leadership of change, adaptability, coaching, delegation, and employee performance management.
Qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agri-economics, Agribusiness, or related fields.
- Master’s Degree will be an added advantage.
- Postgraduate education in Banking and/or Banking certification(s) is an added advantage.
- At least 5 years’ experience in Credit Management, preferably in Agri Retail Credit, with leadership experience in medium to large banking organizations.
