Enza Zaden Tanzania Ltd is a horticultural company that produces high quality hybrid seeds. The seeds produced are all exported to the mother company based in the Netherlands. After thorough quality checks the seeds are re-exported all over the world under the Enza Zaden logo.
Objective of the Role:
To conduct systematic crop scouting activities to identify and monitor diseases, plant disorders, insect pests, and other crop-related conditions, while maintaining accurate records and providing timely information to support effective crop management, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and production activities.
Responsibilities or duties
- Conduct regular crop scouting in accordance with established company protocols to identify and monitor diseases, insect pests, plant disorders, and other conditions that may affect crop health and production.
- Accurately document scouting observations, crop health conditions, and relevant biological activity, maintaining timely and reliable records and reports to support crop management and decision-making.
- Communicate scouting findings and crop health concerns promptly to relevant production teams and management, supporting timely corrective actions and effective coordination of crop management activities.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of Integrated Pest Management programmes, including biological control activities, and provide relevant observations to assess their effectiveness.
- Work closely with production, spraying, pollination, greenhouse, and other relevant teams to support effective crop protection, biological control, and overall crop management activities.
- Identify and report crop, irrigation, greenhouse, or other production-related issues observed during scouting activities, while ensuring compliance with hygiene, health and safety, quality, environmental, and farm protocols and contributing to continuous improvement in crop monitoring and production practices.
Qualifications or requirements
- Diploma in Horticulture, Agronomy, Crop production, Plant science or a related field.
- Good understanding of crop health, plant diseases, insect pests, plant disorders, and general crop production practices.
- Good observation and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to identify and communicate crop-related conditions accurately.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in English and Swahili languages and the ability to work effectively with different production teams.
- Good computer skills and the ability to work with relevant digital or manual systems used for data collection, reporting, and record keeping.
Experience needed
- 2-3 years of relevant experience in crop scouting, crop production, horticulture, greenhouse production, plant protection, or a related agricultural environment will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge or practical exposure to Integrated Pest Management (IPM), biological control, and sustainable crop protection practices will be an added advantage.
