Position overview
The Managing Director will provide strategic leadership and executive management of the institution, ensuring sustainable growth, profitability, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and effective stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the institution’s strategic agenda while maintaining sound governance, risk management, and customer-focused service delivery.
Key responsibilities
The Managing Director shall be responsible for, among others:
- Serving as the Chief Executive Officer and principal spokesperson of the institution.
- Providing strategic leadership and ensuring effective implementation of the institution’s vision, mission, business strategy, and Board directives.
- Developing and maintaining organizational policies, systems, and a corporate culture that promotes employee engagement, customer satisfaction, operational excellence, and stakeholder confidence.
- Reviewing the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, rules, and operational standards and making recommendations to the Board for improvement.
- Overseeing recruitment, appointments, staff transfers, disciplinary actions, and separations in accordance with applicable labour laws, organizational policies, and human resource regulations.
- Monitoring employee performance and ensuring implementation of staff development, succession planning, and capacity-building initiatives.
- Approving training and professional development programmes to enhance institutional performance and service delivery.
- Ensuring efficient management and optimal utilization of organizational resources to achieve strategic objectives approved by the Board.
- Overseeing daily operations and ensuring compliance with all applicable banking, financial, regulatory, and prudential requirements.
- Providing oversight on credit management activities in accordance with approved credit policies and risk management frameworks.
- Chairing Management Committee meetings and ensuring effective execution of management decisions.
- Promoting a culture of excellence, accountability, innovation, and customer-centric service delivery.
- Leading business development initiatives, strengthening customer relationships, and enhancing the institution’s market presence.
- Ensuring effective security, business continuity, and risk management systems for safeguarding institutional assets and personnel.
- Maintaining productive relationships with regulatory authorities, government institutions, financial sector stakeholders, development partners, and other relevant entities.
- Representing the institution in official meetings, conferences, and stakeholder engagements.
- Advising the Board on organizational performance and ensuring implementation of Board resolutions and recommendations.
- Monitoring implementation of recommendations arising from internal audits, external audits, regulatory examinations, and Board directives.
- Performing any other duties as may be assigned by the Board of Directors from time to time.
Qualifications and experience
Applicants must possess:
- A Master’s Degree in Commerce, Economics, Business Administration, Banking, Finance, or other related commercial discipline from a recognized institution.
- A minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant work experience, of which at least five (5) years must have been served at senior executive or C-Suite level within a commercial organization, preferably in the banking or financial services sector.
- Demonstrated knowledge of banking operations, corporate governance, financial management, strategic planning, risk management, and organizational leadership.
- Strong understanding of the legal and regulatory framework governing financial institutions.
