The Manager, Underground Mine Production, is a pivotal role within Geita mine, responsible for leading operations at the Nyankansa and Geita Hill Underground Mining Projects. This position focuses on driving operational excellence in large-scale, trackless mining environments while ensuring adherence to the highest safety and environmental standards. The successful candidate will oversee production and development activities, spearheading a dedicated team to optimize performance and efficiency. By fostering innovation and implementing strategic planning initiatives, this role aims to enhance the overall productivity of our underground mining operations. The Manager will collaborate closely with contractors and specialists to achieve operational targets, solidifying our commitment to excellence and sustainability in mining.
Responsibilities or duties
- Identify, assess, and mitigate safety risks in the underground mining operation to achieve safety objectives.
- Oversee underground production and development processes in large-scale trackless mining.
- Collaborate with specialists to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Establish and commission Paste and CAF operations to improve underground work efficiency.
- Analyze performance data to drive operational improvements and meet production and cost targets.
- Deliver to production and cost targets.
- Communicate effectively to ensure team understanding of key processes for optimized performance.
- Ensure team members understand key processes to optimize performance.
- Train and develop new and inexperienced workers to build a capable workforce.
- Identify and cultivate talent within the team.
- Manage underground mining contracts.
- Establish and implement mine planning processes and systems to enhance operational efficiency.
- Oversee and manage underground mining contracts to ensure compliance and performance metrics are met.
- Apply AGA project management standards to lead minor projects, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery.
- Develop and implement innovative solutions that enhance performance and foster a culture of openness to new ideas.
- Build and lead the mining team.
- Implement processes to identify environmental risks and develop mitigation plans in compliance with regulations.
- Continuously assess and optimize resources to effectively deliver on operational plans and identify areas for improvement.
- Manage compliance with conflict-of-interest policies, SOX control accountabilities, and applicable reporting requirements.
Qualifications or requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualification (BEng Mining / Engineering Degree preferred).
- Underground Mine Managers Certificate (preferred)
Experience needed
- A minimum of Eight (8) years of operational experience within an underground mining environment, with at least three (3) years at the mine management level.
- 1 to 2 years of experience with Operational Excellence (OE) initiatives or equivalent.
- Experience in highly mechanized underground operations.
- Advanced knowledge in contract management and project management standards applied to minor-medium projects.
