Job Purpose
The Government Relations lead will support the organization to develop and foster tangible relations and models of implementation with the Government of Tanzania through Government led lifting out of ultra poverty program. . This role involves developing and executing strategic plans to drive growth, implementation, and planning. The Government Relations lead will lead a team of professionals, collaborate with cross-functional departments, and represent RTV at the Regional and National levels within the Tanzania structure
The Government Relations Lead will provide strategic Leadership to the RTV Tanzania team and ensure the development and implementation of programs through a government led model, effective monitoring, and evaluation systems including convening regular reviews at the district, regional and national level with the government.. He/she provides leadership and planning to the organization’s goal of getting last-mile communities out of ultra-poverty. He/she will report directly to the Regional Programs Director as his/her immediate supervisor. Regularly, He/she will travel to the field to ensure proper and successful implementation of all program work.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Lead government level engagement in Tanzania by developing and implementing a robust strategy that results in core government contributions and engagement to implement a solid government led/partnership model.
- Develop and implement short-term and long-term strategies aligned with RTV’s objectives in alignment with the organizational strategic direction and guidance from the Regional Program Director.
- Drive expansion to other districts in Tanzania through a robust analysis of needs in collaboration with the Venn team and engagement with national, regional and district level government authorities
- Monitor trends, comparative landscape, and sector developments to adjust strategies.
Team Management:
- Ground preparation for building and inspiring a diverse team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Set clear performance expectations, provide coaching and professional development opportunities, and conduct regular performance reviews.
Business Development:
- Drive in country expansion by establishing and maintaining strong relationships with key partners, and stakeholders.
- Identify new growth opportunities and develop strategies to expand RTV programs.
- Collaborate with the VENN, Implementation, and Operation teams to achieve operational objectives.
Operational Excellence:
- Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure efficient and effective delivery of Country programs.
- Implement best practices for operational efficiency, quality assurance, and risk management.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure RTV compliance with local laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Mitigate risks associated with legal, regulatory, and operational challenges.
Reporting and Communication:
- Provide regular updates to the Regional Programs Director and other senior management on the country’s performance, opportunities, and challenges.
- Foster open communication channels within the country/region
Others
- Take part in donor meetings to express or clarify different processes and interpret reports as required.
- Participate, when possible, in conferences and workshops related to M&E and keep abreast of best practices and new knowledge in the M&E sector.
- Support the in-country expansion plans and make travels to country assessments and validations
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Development Studies, MBA, or advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of proven experience in development program implementation with 5 years in leadership roles.
- Strong experience in stakeholder engagement, developing robust relationships and partnerships especially with the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.
- Strong track record of achieving operational excellence and driving business growth.
- Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills.
- In-depth knowledge of Tanzania Country NGO sector dynamics, culture, and business practices.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in financial management and budgeting.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate complex regulatory environments.
- Fluency in English and Kiswahili.
