Position Description

The Barrick Africa Middle East Team is seeking to recruit a Draughtsman to join and grow our team.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe work practices by attending compulsory safety training and meetings, complying with site safety procedures, and using required PPE during site visits.
  • Prepare, develop, and update accurate technical drawings for Surface and Underground Mine infrastructure, including layouts, sections, elevations, and details, in accordance with approved standards and specifications.
  • Interpret engineering designs, mine plans, survey data, and field information to produce clear, compliant, and constructible drawings.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with Barrick North Mara Gold Mine standards, statutory regulations, and Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) requirements.
  • Maintain strict document control, including drawing numbering, revision control, and proper filing in approved systems.
  • Coordinate with Engineers, Surveyors, Geotechnics, Geologists, Planners, and Operations teams to ensure drawings accurately reflect site conditions and operational requirements.
  • Conduct site visits to Surface and Underground areas, where required, to verify dimensions, layouts, and as-built situations.
  • Prepare and update as-built drawings following project completion or modifications.
  • Develop drawings for renovations and new buildings, including community projects such as schools, accommodation, clinics, and other community upliftment initiatives.
  • Support Mine Projects, shutdowns, and maintenance works by providing timely drawing updates and revisions.
  • Identify drawing discrepancies, clashes, or design scope change issues and escalate them to relevant stakeholders for resolution.
  • Liaise with contractors on site regarding drawing interpretation, quality control, and finishes.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of technical and mine-related information.
  • Assist with preparation of drawings for regulatory submissions, audits and inspections.
  • Manage drawing requests, priorities, and deadlines to meet operational and business targets.
  • Maintain proficiency in approved drafting software and systems and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop reinforced concrete drawings from engineer-provided designs, calculations, and specifications.
  • Prepare structural steelwork drawings from concept through to final working drawings in collaboration with engineers.
  • Produce detailed mechanical drawings from conception to final working drawings based on engineering input.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed and report progress to the supervisor as required.
  • Strong personal commitment to implement policies and procedures, with the ability to foster strong safety culture among personnel. 
  • Ability to mentor and work with people from a wide range of nationalities and cultures and the willingness to share skills and knowledge with others. 
  • Excellent planning, organization skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities and self-discipline to achieve tasks on time. 

Qualification requirements

  • Certificate from The Academy of Draughting.
  • Certificate in AutoCAD 2017 
  • Detailed working knowledge of industrial and residential structures. 
  • Having worked under various engineers on major construction sites to understand and provide clear detailing.
  • Sound knowledge of Building Act, Building Code and Building Regulations.
  • Driver’s License
  • Mines Health, Environmental & Safety Act Awareness.

Experience and competencies needed.

  • 3 - 4 years’ experience as a Draughtsman. 
  • Experience with all fields especially Mining Environment Draughting Practices. 
  • Knowledge and experience in 2D and 3D drawings including presentation.
