The company is currently seeking a highly experienced and motivated Underground Mechanical Foreman to join its operations team in Mwanza on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will provide leadership to underground mechanical teams and ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of critical lifting and hoisting systems, including winches and head frames within underground mining operations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise mechanical crews involved in the installation, repair, and maintenance of winches, head frames, and related underground equipment.
  • Plan, allocate, and monitor daily work activities to achieve operational targets.
  • Conduct inspections and implement preventive maintenance schedules for hoisting systems.
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety regulations, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures, and company policies.
  • Train and mentor mechanical fitters and technicians working in underground operations.
  • Coordinate with inventory and procurement teams to ensure timely availability of spare parts and tools.
  • Prepare and submit operational performance and compliance reports to management.
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements for operational efficiency.
  • Ensure safe working practices are maintained within underground mechanical operations.

Qualifications

  • FTC (Full Technician Certificate) in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in underground mining mechanical operations.
  • Strong knowledge of winch systems.
  • Strong knowledge of head frame structures.
  • Strong knowledge of heavy lifting and hoisting equipment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory capabilities.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Good problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under demanding mining operational conditions.
