Descriptions
The UI/UX Designer will be responsible for creating intuitive, secure, and engaging experiences for our diverse customer base. Will be responsible for designing solutions for our digital products including but not limited to mobile banking apps, internet banking platform, USSD services, agent banking systems, and other emerging digital products. The candidate will understand the Tanzanian market, local user behaviors, multilingual design requirements, and the unique challenges of designing for customers with varying levels of digital literacy.
Responsibilities
Design & Research
- Design user interfaces for our mobile banking app, internet banking platform, USSD services, agent banking systems and other digital products that are intuitive, accessible, and culturally relevant.
- Design multilingual experiences (Swahili and English) that accommodate users with varying levels of digital literacy
- Create user personas, journey maps, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for web and mobile applications
- Develop and maintain our digital banking design system, component libraries, and brand style guides to ensure consistency across all customer touchpoints
- Collaborate with product managers, IT teams, compliance officers, and business stakeholders to define and implement innovative solutions for complex banking workflows
Banking & Financial Services Focus
- Design secure authentication flows, transaction interfaces, and account management experiences that build customer trust and confidence
- Ensure designs comply with Bank of Tanzania regulations, security standards (PCI DSS), and accessibility guidelines (WCAG)
- Optimize designs for low-bandwidth environments and various device types from feature phones to smartphones
- Create intuitive experiences for banking operations, mobile money transfers, account opening, loans, savings products, and card management
- Design customer onboarding flows that balance regulatory KYC/AML requirements with user experience.
- Consider local payment behaviors and cash-to-digital transition challenges in design solutions
Security & Compliance
- Apply secure coding standards aligned with OWASP and banking regulatory requirements.
- Work with the ICT Security team to fix vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with PCI DSS and BOT guidelines.
- Handle customer data with strict confidentiality and in compliance with data protection standards.
Collaboration & Delivery
- Work closely with our IT and development teams to ensure accurate implementation of designs
- Partner with compliance and risk teams to ensure designs meet regulatory requirements
- Present design concepts and rationale to executive leadership and incorporate feedback effectively
- Participate in agile development processes and contribute to sprint planning
- Stay updated on digital banking trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in financial services UX.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Multimedia Design or related field from a recognized Tanzanian or international institution, or equivalent practical experience.
Technical Skills
- UI/UX Design Tools: Proficiency in Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, or equivalent design tools.
- User Research & Testing: Ability to conduct user research, usability testing, and translate insights into design improvements.
- Wireframing & Prototyping: Creation of low- to high-fidelity wireframes, interactive prototypes, and design mockups.
- Design Systems: Experience building and maintaining design systems, UI standards, and reusable components.
- User-Centered Design (UCD): Strong understanding of UX principles, accessibility, and usability best practices.
- Responsive & Mobile Design: Experience designing for mobile, tablet, web, and multi-device environments.
- Interaction Design: Ability to design intuitive flows, micro-interactions, and seamless user journeys.
- Information Architecture: Structuring content and navigation for clarity and ease of use.
- Basic Front-End Knowledge: Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and frontend frameworks to collaborate effectively with developers.
- Accessibility Standards: Knowledge of accessibility guidelines (WCAG) and inclusive design practices.

Experience
- 3-5 years of professional UI/UX design experience, with at least 2 years working on banking, fintech, or mobile money applications (experience with Tanzanian banking or mobile money platforms is highly valued).
- Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design process for financial services products.
- Understanding of front-end development constraints and capabilities (HTML, CSS, responsive design principles).
- Knowledge of mobile-first design, iOS and Android design guidelines.
- Experience conducting user research and usability testing in Tanzania or East Africa
