Purpose of Role
The Transport Planning & Safety Lead will be responsible for driving safety agenda, efficiency, and compliant transport operations across inbound, outbound, and site logistics. This role ensures strict adherence to transport safety standards, optimizes transport planning processes, and coordinates with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve operational excellence, cost efficiency, Service delivery and zero-harm objectives.
Responsibilities
- Execute inbound/outbound transport plans to meet turnaround times (TAT), customer service levels, and cost efficiency.
- Coordinate with Warehousing, Planning, Sourcing, and Sales for smooth delivery of orders and materials.
- Track transporter performance, optimize routes, and improve fleet utilization.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to transport efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and safety compliance.
- Optimize and implement continuous improvement initiatives in safety and operations to reduce costs and improve service levels.
- Lead transport safety engagements, driver training, and 3PL compliance to SOPs.
- Develop site specific traffic management plans in collaboration with Logistics Managers and Site Health & Safety managers.
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards in transport operations.
- Manage and coach drivers on daily safety violations and corrective actions.
- Oversee Journey Planning Management (JPM): pre-trip briefings, post-trip reviews, and mitigation of deviations.
- Ensure vehicle and forklift inspections/checklists are completed, track and close gaps identified.
- Investigate and report incidents; implement preventive actions.
- Drive compliance with CARM, IAA, SFIPP, and local regulations.
- Conduct internal audits of transport safety and operational processes; close gaps with action plans.
Experience / Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transport Management, or related field.
- Professional certifications in Transport Safety/Logistics (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, CILT) are an advantage.
- 5 years’ experience or equivalent in transport operations, planning, or safety (FMCG/3PL preferred).
- Strong knowledge of transport safety standards, journey management, and incident investigations methodologies.
- Proficiency in TMS,WMS, route optimization, and MS Office.
