Position Summary

Job Title: Teller

Job Purpose

The Teller is responsible for executing day-to-day customer financial transactions accurately, efficiently, and professionally. Working directly under the Teller In-Charge, this role handles cash deposits, withdrawals, utility bill payments, and mobile money transfers while providing exceptional customer service and maintaining accurate daily cash till reconciliations.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Financial & Cash Transaction Execution:

• Process cash deposits, withdrawals, and account transfers across various agency banking networks.
• Execute mobile money cash-in and cash-out transactions across leading telecom networks (M-Pesa, Airtel Money, Mixx by Yas, HaloPesa, etc.).
• Handle utility bill payments, government payments, and merchant cash transactions promptly.

Cash Control & Daily Reconciliation:

• Maintain accurate cash drawer/till balances throughout operating hours.
• Perform start-of-day and end-of-day cash counts and reconcile daily transaction logs against system balances.
• Identify and report any transaction errors or balance discrepancies immediately to the supervisor.

Customer Care & Compliance:

• Deliver warm, professional, and efficient service to every customer.
• Verify customer identities and account details to ensure transaction security and prevent fraud.
• Adhere strictly to company policies, internal financial security controls, and privacy standards regarding customer data.

Candidate Qualifications & Experience

Educational Background:

• Certificate, Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Banking, Business Administration, or a related field.

Key Competencies & Technical Skills:

• Numerical & Computer Skills: Excellent cash-handling accuracy, basic computer literacy, and comfort using digital financial transaction systems/POS terminals.
• Industry Familiarity: Prior experience in agency banking, financial service centers, cashiering, or mobile money operations is a distinct added advantage.
• Personal Attributes: Exceptional honesty, integrity, high attention to detail, reliability, and strong customer service skills.
• Work Style: Ability to remain calm, courteous, and accurate while working in a fast-paced environment under pressure.
