Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) is Tanzania’s leading gold producer with a single operation in Geita Region. The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, an international gold producer headquartered in Denver, USA. GGML is situated in the Lake Victoria Gold fields of Northwestern Tanzania, only about 120 km’s from Mwanza City. Applications are invited for the position of Technician 2 – Occupational Hygiene.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

To provide technical support in occupational hygiene by conducting workplace surveys, sampling, and hazard analysis, monitoring exposure to physical, chemical, and biological agents, and assisting in implementing effective control measures to protect employee health and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental management, environmental Science or any other related field.
• Valid Tanzania driving license and proficiency in driving light vehicle.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 2 years’ working experience as an Occupational or Industrial Hygienist, or as an Occupational Hygiene Technician.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Competent in handling and use of occupational hygiene equipment.
• Knowledgeable in occupational health and hygiene standards and regulations.
• Able to provide guidance and technical advice on occupational hygiene matters.
• Strong external relations and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Knowledge of compliance and governance, including NOHSC 1 & 2 standards.
• Team player with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
• Demonstrates integrity, professionalism, and commitment to workplace safety.

• Prepare dust filters, labelling, and conduct the dust pre and post weigh in the gravimetric dust lab.
• Take gravimetric pumps and other sampling/measuring instruments to the fields where people are working.
• Maintain, operate, and calibrate a variety of sampling and monitoring equipment.
• Evaluate and interpret monitoring and sampling results, make determinations, and develop corrective strategies.
• Prepare accurate and complete reports of survey findings and provide recommendations on how to correct hazardous conditions.
• Evaluate the long-term effect of exposure to health hazards to develop cost-effective plans for addressing such situations.
• Determine effectiveness of engineering control methods and make recommendations regarding location, design, structure, operations, and maintenance of contaminant and physical agent control systems.
• Check compliance in terms of PPE and adherence to the Occupational Hygiene.
• Review operational procedures to identify processes detrimental to health.
• Assess workplace for occupational health hazards by observing work conditions, assessing records, conducting interviews, sampling and monitoring chemical or physical agents.

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental management, environmental Science or any other related field.
• The incumbent must hold a valid Tanzania driving license and be proficient in driving light vehicle.
