Reports to: Head, Corporate Banking

Supervises: Relationship Managers (direct); Relationship Officers (indirect)

Job Summary

The Team Lead, Agriculture will drive the Corporate and Commercial Banking business towards the achievement of the Bank's mission and vision by delivering the set business targets for the Agriculture sector.

The role is responsible for acquiring and managing corporate and commercial clients within the Agriculture sector, growing the sector portfolio, developing profitable business opportunities, managing credit risk and leading the sector relationship team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive client acquisition and manage existing corporate and commercial client relationships within the Agriculture sector in line with the Bank's business development strategy.
  • Ensure clients receive appropriate banking advice, products and services to meet their business needs.
  • Generate new-to-bank business to achieve defined sales targets.
  • Reactivate dormant relationships to improve deposit liability growth and portfolio mix.
  • Conduct regular customer site visits to assess business operations, property, plant, premises, equipment and other collateral.
  • Prepare customer call reports and recommend actions required to meet customer expectations while remaining compliant with Bank policies.
  • Analyse and monitor Agriculture sector market trends, customer requirements and emerging opportunities.
  • Provide integrated banking products and solutions tailored to Agriculture sector customers.
  • Recommend product development and improvement based on customer and market needs.
  • Strengthen client retention by acting as a key point of contact for customer banking needs.
  • Develop sales strategies in collaboration with the Product Development Team and other stakeholder departments.
  • Monitor approved risk triggers, conditions and covenants attached to credit facilities.
  • Continuously monitor non-performing facilities and initiate recovery action on deteriorating, watch-listed and non-performing accounts.
  • Recommend the creation of viable and profitable risk assets to increase business profitability.
  • Source and monitor customers' tenured investments and facilities.
  • Offer products tailored to the needs of the Agriculture sector and maintain regular engagement with client executives.
  • Meet and exceed targets for Revenue/PBT, risk assets, guarantees, deposits, foreign exchange and other assigned business targets.
  • Lead, supervise and develop the Agriculture sector team.
  • Ensure Relationship Managers and Relationship Officers are adequately supported and equipped to achieve their individual targets.
  • Conduct research on Agriculture industry and market trends, regulations and emerging products.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the Bank's customer value proposition while safeguarding against emerging risks.
  • Review, analyse and screen credit applications.
  • Prepare credit memoranda in accordance with the Bank's credit policy for recommendation and approval.
  • Comply with all Bank policies, procedures and operational guidelines, particularly the Credit Policy and Human Resources Policy.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head, Corporate Banking.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Achievement of the approved PBT target for the Agriculture sector.
  • 100% attainment of annual targets covering deposits, risk assets, fees and commissions, client conversions and dormant account reactivations.
  • Development and maintenance of functional commercial banking relationships.
  • Growth of a viable and profitable risk asset portfolio.
  • Growth and quality of the Agriculture sector portfolio under management.
  • Performance of Relationship Managers and Relationship Officers against their individual targets.
  • Timely submission of complete and accurate performance reports.

Qualifications and Experience

  • First degree in a business-related field or social sciences discipline from a reputable university.
  • Higher degrees, MBA or professional certifications are an added advantage.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' relevant experience in a banking environment, including exposure to the Agriculture sector.
  • Experience in credit and relationship management is required.
