Position objective
The main purpose of the role is to manage the Collection and Recovery Sub-unit to ensure turnaround of classified loan portfolios for SME, MSE, and Consumer segments.
This should align with the bank’s business strategy, credit policy, and procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Manage all accounts in arrears for 90 days or more from different loan officer portfolios.
- Contact reachable clients via phone and conduct physical visits to serve demand letters and encourage repayment, while educating them on the implications of non-repayment.
- Negotiate repayment plans with clients willing to pay.
- Request transfer of delinquent accounts to auctioneers for sale of secured and unsecured assets when repayment deadlines have expired.
- Ensure auctioneers understand the security and attend all steps of the selling process.
- Escalate accounts with potential fraud indicators to the supervisor for review.
- Keep accurate records of collections, repayment agreements, and outcomes of debtor visits.
- Review all at-risk accounts in the portfolio and conduct regular follow-ups to encourage repayment.
- Update the Recovery system daily with all actions and progress on accounts.
- Maintain records of deceased customers’ accounts and coordinate with the team leader to lodge insurance claims with Bancassurance, tracking payments until completed.
- Perform any other official duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or line manager.
Qualifications, skills, and experience
Education and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Economics, Commerce, Business Administration, Accountancy, Finance, Risk Management, Actuarial Sciences, Insurance, or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in credit operations and portfolio monitoring.
- Strong background in credit appraisal and management.
Required knowledge and competencies:
- Credit appraisal and monitoring.
- Debt restructuring and workout processes.
- Collection and recovery management.
- Effective writing and presentation skills in English and Swahili.
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and financial management skills.
- Proven leadership abilities.
