The Aviv S.E.S. Officer reports to the CR&S Site Head and Deputy General Manager.

The officer acts as a liaison between the company, workers, and all local stakeholders, including relevant local authorities, NGOs, and affected communities. The role involves hosting regular communication in line with the company’s sustainability strategy.

Job purpose

The main purpose of the role is to support Aviv Tanzania Limited’s social engagement and sustainability initiatives by maintaining strong stakeholder relationships, supporting community development activities, ensuring sustainability compliance, and strengthening communication between the company and local communities.

Key responsibilities

The Social Engagement and Sustainability Officer will be responsible for the following:

  • Maintain regular contact with all identified local stakeholders, both external and internal, to promote a good understanding of Aviv policies, procedures, and practices, and provide adequate feedback when necessary.
  • Implement the company’s shared long-term sustainability plan by working closely with local village development committees and local government authorities.
  • Facilitate community mobilization for all activities related to the provision of sanitation facilities and hygiene promotion, including WASH activities, in close coordination with the organization’s CR&S team.
  • Take account of gender cross-cutting issues, protection of human rights, HIV, the environment, and other important cross-cutting concerns in program design, implementation, and reporting.
  • Carry out activities in a way that reflects the needs of specific groups and individuals in the working environment, including elderly people, minority groups, children, and people with disabilities.
  • Develop, review, and improve Aviv social engagement procedures to keep the company’s management team informed about the local context and ensure ongoing compliance with internationally recognized sustainable practices.
  • Monitor the company’s sustainability initiatives to build and demonstrate the business case for each social activity.
  • Serve as the focal person to ensure proper understanding of Aviv’s Grievance Resolution Procedure by affected stakeholders and demonstrate its effective implementation.
  • Manage well-functioning village development committees within identified areas of interest.
  • Develop regular reports and monitoring updates on various aspects, including the nutrition database and all listed responsibilities, to ensure effective communication channels within the company.
  • Continuously identify and propose new initiatives to improve Aviv’s overall objectives for successful sustainable agriculture.
  • Manage issues that arise before assigned government bodies by coordinating company analysis and response.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including employees, and maintain open communication with senior management.

Position requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • BSc/BA in Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Certification, Public Relations, Project Management, Communications, Rural Development Planning, or a related field.
  • Minimum proven experience as a Public Relations Officer, Environmental Officer, Rural Development Officer, or Communication Officer.
  • Proven background knowledge in researching, writing, and editing publications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and email.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and deliver objectives on time and within budget.
  • Creativity and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Female candidates proven worthy will be given priority.
