Sign Language Tutor
Job Purpose:
To teach and facilitate the learning of sign language to students, staff, or community members, and to provide interpretation services to facilitate communication for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver structured sign language lessons (beginner to advanced levels).
- Assess learners' progress through practical tests, exams, and continuous assessment.
- Prepare teaching materials, visual aids, and video resources for effective learning.
- Provide sign language interpretation during meetings, workshops, and public events.
- Sensitize the community and staff on deaf culture and communication etiquette.
- Maintain attendance records and prepare progress reports for learners.
- Organize sign language clubs or extracurricular activities to promote practice.
- Stay updated with modern sign language trends and pedagogical methods.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Diploma or Certificate in Sign Language Interpretation or Special Needs Education.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching sign language or interpreting.
- Proficiency in [National] Sign Language is mandatory.
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent non-verbal communication and facial expression.
- Patience and creativity in teaching.
- Strong observation skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
