Position Summary
- The Senior Legal Officer will join the Business Support Services team and will provide high-quality legal advisory, company secretarial, tax, and regulatory compliance services to clients.
- The position requires strong technical legal knowledge, sound professional judgment, and the ability to manage multiple client engagements while maintaining high standards of quality and client service.
- The Senior Legal Officer will also manage legal engagements, provide commercially focused legal solutions, represent clients before regulatory authorities and tax dispute resolution bodies, support business development, and mentor junior team members.
Responsibilities or duties
- Lead and deliver legal advisory, company secretarial, tax, and regulatory compliance engagements.
- Prepare, review, and oversee legal deliverables, including:
- Legal opinions.
- Contracts and agreements.
- Corporate documents.
- Compliance reports.
- Other client deliverables.
- Advise clients on corporate and commercial matters, tax law, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.
- Provide company secretarial services, including:
- Company incorporation.
- Statutory filings.
- Maintenance of statutory registers.
- Preparation of board and shareholders' resolutions.
- Corporate governance advisory.
- Represent clients before regulatory and government institutions, including TRA, TRAB, TRAT, BRELA, FCC, BOT, TIRA, and other relevant authorities.
- Prepare regulatory submissions, responses, applications, and correspondence.
- Support clients on tax advisory matters, tax reviews, disputes, objections, and engagements with tax authorities.
- Lead preparation of business proposals and ensure timely submission.
- Keep up to date with Tanzanian corporate law, tax legislation, regulatory requirements, and company secretarial practices.
- Build and maintain long-term client relationships.
- Liaise effectively with clients, regulators, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection requirements.
- Develop professional relationships with relevant regulatory institutions.
- Support business development initiatives and represent Coretax Africa at meetings, seminars, forums, and industry events.
- Supervise, coach, and mentor Legal Officers, Graduate Trainees, and Interns.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree.
- Admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Tanzania and Subordinate Courts thereto.
- Professional training or certification in Company Secretarial Services, Corporate Governance, Taxation, or a related field is an added advantage.
Experience needed
- 4–7 years of relevant experience in corporate and commercial law, tax advisory, company secretarial practice, regulatory compliance, or related legal services.
- Experience in a law firm, professional services, or consulting environment is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Tanzanian corporate law, tax legislation, regulatory compliance, and company secretarial practices.
- Experience advising clients on corporate governance, statutory compliance, and regulatory matters.
- Experience representing clients before TRA, TRAB, TRAT, BRELA, and other regulatory institutions is an added advantage.
- Excellent legal drafting, research, analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Willingness to travel to client sites, regulatory authorities, courts, tribunals, and other engagements as required.
