Perseus Mining are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join the open pit mining team at our Nyanzaga site, in Tanzania.

Reporting to the Open Pit Technical Services Superintendent, this role will lead the establishment and continuous improvement of site geotechnical processes to support safe and efficient open pit operations.

The Role

  • Develop, implement, and manage the Open Pit Slope Management Plan
  • Ensure adherence to industry best practices in all geotechnical tasks, planning, and execution
  • Apply geotechnical engineering principles to the overall mine plan, including slope design, pit optimisation support, and geotechnical risk management
  • Conduct site investigations, rock mass characterisation, and slope stability assessments to support mine design
  • Oversee geotechnical monitoring programmes, including installation, maintenance, and interpretation of slope monitoring systems and instrumentation
  • Maintain open pit geotechnical QA/QC programmes

About you

With a degree in Geotechnical Engineering and at least 7 years of open pit hard rock mining experience, our ideal candidate will:

  • Have significant experience in open pit slope design, stability analysis, and slope management
  • Demonstrate a track record in mining geotechnical projects across operating pits and developments in challenging environments
  • Possess strong knowledge of relevant geotechnical standards, legislation, and codes of practice
  • Show meticulous attention to technical design, review, and compliance
  • Exhibit leadership capabilities and be able to work both independently and collaboratively within diverse teams
  • Have previous experience working long rosters

Where You’ll Be Working

Located in East Africa’s resource rich Lake Victoria Goldfields, the Nyanzaga Gold Project is Perseus’s first operation in Tanzania. Nyanzaga is currently in the early stages of construction, following a Final Investment Decision made in April 2025 with first gold production is targeted for early 2027.

The project places strong emphasis on sustainability and community development, with programs focused on local employment, infrastructure investment, and long-term social and environmental outcomes.
