Mkulazi Holding Company Limited (MHCL) is inviting applications from qualified and experienced Tanzanians for the position of Senior Fitter Mechanics – Mills. The successful candidate will report to the Mechanical Technician – Mills and will be responsible for supporting installation, maintenance, repair, and fitting activities for mechanical systems and production equipment within the mill operations.

The role requires strong technical competence in mechanical fitting, troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, and supervision of fitting activities within industrial environments. The selected candidate will support efficient plant operations by ensuring machinery and equipment are properly maintained, inspected, repaired, and operated according to engineering standards and safety requirements.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Planning and supervising fitting works on machinery, mechanical systems, and production equipment
  • Carrying out installation, maintenance, and repair of pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, turbines, valves, and pipework
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting complex mechanical faults and providing effective solutions
  • Conducting alignment, balancing, and adjustment of rotating equipment
  • Fabricating and assembling mechanical components, pipe fittings, and structural supports
  • Guiding and providing technical support to Fitter Mechanics and Artisan Helpers
  • Preparing work plans, material lists, and resource requirements for fitting activities
  • Interpreting mechanical drawings, technical manuals, and specifications
  • Performing precision fitting, machining, and modification of mechanical parts
  • Ensuring proper execution of preventive and corrective maintenance programs
  • Inspecting and testing installed equipment to verify operational performance
  • Enforcing safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, and housekeeping standards
  • Maintaining records of maintenance works, reports, and material usage
  • Participating in plant shutdowns, equipment overhauls, and project activities
  • Identifying opportunities for improving equipment reliability and maintenance practices
  • Conducting training and mentorship for junior fitters and artisan teams
  • Collaborating with Engineers and maintenance teams in problem-solving activities
  • Ensuring proper use, care, and storage of mechanical tools and equipment
  • Performing any other lawful duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Fitting and Machining, or related field from a recognized institution
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Engineering Technician (CET) or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt will be an added advantage
  • Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical systems and fitting operations
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and maintenance manuals
  • Good troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and leadership abilities
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure within industrial environments

Experience needed

  • Minimum of six (6) years working experience in engineering roles within manufacturing or processing environments
  • Experience in sugar industries or related processing industries will be an added advantage
