Sickle Cell Programme (SCP) is a research programme in the Department of Haematology and Blood Transfusion at Muhimbili University of Health & Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. The programme conducts biomedical research, support health care, advocacy and training. The Sickle Cell Programme has an employment opportunity for highly motivated and results-driven individual. One of the projects under SCP is the Sickle Pan African Consortium (SPARCO), with sites in Tanzania, Ghana and Nigeria, and a hub at MUHAS, Tanzania. SPARCO works with Sickle Africa Data Coordinating Center (SADaCC) a sister project funded by the National Health Institute (NIH) based at the University of Cape Town in South Africa.

SPARCO Hub Data Coordinator (1 POST) - DAR ES SALAAM

Sickle Cell Programme is looking for a qualified Individual to fill the post of Data Coordinator of the SPARCO project for a period of ONE year. The requested Data Coordinator will be a link between SPARCO Data Manager and Site Data Coordinators in management of the research data of all projects in the project, an implementer of all policies, SOP’s, data element and metadata analysis, lead clinics activities for data collection, preparation for analysis and documentation under data workgroup ,he/she will be responsible to adhere with Health, Research, Advocacy and Training for the purpose of improving personal development as well as the project goals. .

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Daily management of the research data capture systems used by SPARCO sites and nested follow-up projects including clinical trials.
• Ensure safe backup and restore of production and development back-end environment
• Design and implementation of quality control procedures to ensure data quality including the accuracy and integrity of data collected.
• Data migration between legacy and new database systems.
• Design and implementation of procedures for data cleaning, validation and integrity checking and storage.
• To implement database integration and interoperability between Hospital. Management Systems and the SPARCO registry
• Draft policies which include: data cleaning, quality and data storage and backup
• Perform and prepare data for statistical analysis and generate routine reports from clinical and laboratory surveillance and as required for clinical trial audits.
• Extraction of data from various data sources in response to research needs.
• Communicate with SPARCO site data coordinators and clerks to ensure procedures are being followed and to ensure the collection of high-quality accurate data. .
• To support the first line IT support person to ensure the correct implementation and maintenance of all hardware and network and access rights to database and shared file servers are maintained and meet changing requirements. .
• Be responsible for ensuring all documentation of procedures and actions in relation to data collection, management, extraction and analysis are followed and filed appropriately, and ensure that that all other staff line managed by this position or who are conducting these activities have sufficient understanding and knowledge to conduct these activities appropriately. .
• Assist SPARCO Data Manager in recruiting and mentoring data staff, performing appraisals, and coordinating training. .
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE.
• B.Sc. /BA, preferably M.Sc. in Computer Science, Biostatistics or related discipline. .
• 1 -2 years’ experience in similar position preferably in a health related project. .
• Excellent communication and conversant with computer application. .
• Data monitoring and evaluation experience: cleaning experience, thorough understanding of SQL and relational databases and experience with MySQL RDBMS. .
• Experience in networks and hardware administration, hardware support and ability to troubleshoot and identify hardware and network problems. .
• Knowledge of REDCap will be an added advantage.
