Job Description

The Barrick Africa Middle East Team is seeking to recruit a Resource and Database Manager to join and grow our team.

Responsibilities 

  • End of year (and mid-year) resource data and workbooks are completed on time as required by SLT.
  • NI43-101 Report accurately compiled & submitted annually.
  • Complete reconciliations for stopping areas from Inferred – indicated – measured; Ore Reserve -Grade Control – CMS – Mill, Submit Bi-annual report on trends discovered.
  • Review QAQC data monthly and quarterly for errors and bias trends, reported concerns to Supervisors, Superintendent & Operations Manager, discuss with SGS/Lab managers.
  • Database updated weekly, Quarterly database audit report.
  • Accurately maintain update Grade Block Models at least every quarter.
  • Review new techniques to calculate mineral resource estimates and model validation to increase confidence, proposal submitted.
  • Quarterly charts prepared & submitted for approval.
  • Ensure planned milestones achieved Monthly.
  • Revision completed quarterly, and monthly detail extended to rolling 12 months chart.
  • Reports accurately & correctly completed and submitted on time.
  • Shift reports accurately & correctly completed and submitted on time.
  • Develop an understanding and fingerprint key host lithologies, alteration, and structural controls of the North Mara gold deposit(s) in conjunction with the on-site team.
  • Re-log historic core based on the advanced understanding of geology with purpose of feeding into an updated geological model.
  • Develop, train staff, and implement pXRF logging procedure based on geochemical fingerprinting of key rock units.
  • Develop and optimize efficient logging procedures and codes for the North Mara deposit(s). Train and on-site develop staff.
  • Develop and support geological interpretation and cross section production with the on-site project geology team.
  • Work with on-site resource team to model key geological controls in 3D.
  • Build and maintain collaborative internal relationships with key departments (exploration, resource, underground, project, tech services)
  • Mentor and develop on-site geological staff across MRM & Exploration groups.
  • Participate in, oversee, and/or lead the implementation of key initiatives.
  • Provide input into MRM-growth drill programs, near mine exploration, and feasibility studies.
  • Prepare, provide, and participate in presentations.
  • Provide skills mentoring and peer review within the resource teams, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Roles and Responsibilities on Health and Safety

  • Drive and maintain MRM’s Journey to Zero programs.
  • Ensure all team members are aware of and committed to their DUTY of CARE responsibilities.
  • Ensure all critical controls have been implemented and confirmed on any task involving Fatal Risk.
  • Complete at least 2x Critical Control Verifications per week, conduct safety audits and interactions.
  • Ensure all team members are provided a safe working environment including working tools & PPE.
  • Ensure all NMGM safe work practices and procedures are followed at all times.
  • Limit exposure to incidents/ accidents, encourage near-miss reporting and ensure all accidents or incidents are reported immediately.
  • Ensure the workforce comply with applicable legislation and site-specific requirements.
  • Actively participate in incident and accident investigations as required (ICAM). 
  • Drive participation in safety management and toolbox meetings.
  • Lead and supervise to ensure field level risk assessments (FLRA) are completed for all new tasks, to a high standard and that all safety hazards are formally raised are addressed.
  • Ensure that personnel are trained and ticketed for their designated tasks.
  • Correct unsafe or workplace conditions that compromise the health of our people.
  • Ensure that facilities, plant, and equipment are being used safely and for the appropriate work method.
  • Ensure and maintain compliance to mine planning, design, and profile standards.
  • Ensure and maintain compliance on based job safety analysis (JHA) completed accurately for every task without a Standard Operating Procedure.

Roles and Responsibilities on EMS

  • Taking accountability for the effectiveness of the environmental management system
  • Ensuring that the environmental policy and environmental objectives are established and are compatible with the strategic direction and the context of the organization.
  • Ensuring that the resources needed for the environmental management system are available
  • Communicating the importance of effective environmental management and of conforming to the environmental management system requirements.
  • Ensuring that the environmental management system achieves its intended outcomes.
  • Directing and supporting persons to contribute to the effectiveness of the environmental management system.
  • Promoting continual improvements.
  • Supporting other relevant management roles to demonstrate their leadership as it applies to their area of responsibility.

Qualification requirements

  • Degree in Geology or related fields (e.g., Engineering, Metallurgy) required.
  • Active registration and in good standing with a professional recognize association.
  • Strong knowledge of mining operations, safety regulations, and competency frameworks.

Experience and competencies needed.

  • A minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial role is considered essential.
  • Experience in geological modelling software including Seequent’s Leapfrog and Maptek’s Vulcan.
  • Advanced understanding of mineralogy, geochemistry, and structural geology of gold forming systems.
  • Experience in working with databases and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Experience in gold deposits.
  • Experience in mine geology, or near-mine exploration.
  • Analytical skills, able to think logically and clearly, Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • A valid Driver’s License (manual-class license), experienced driving on a mine site. 
  • Experience in open-pit or underground mining environments.
  • High attention to detail with a focus on compliance.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage training in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Strong planning, coordination, and organizational abilities.
