Role Summary
Tabono Consult is seeking an RMS Performance and Assurance Engineer on behalf of a leading African telecom intelligence and energy management provider.
Rather than a traditional NOC or installation position, this role bridges data analytics and field execution. You will turn remote monitoring telemetry into tangible operational improvements—optimizing renewable energy, eliminating fuel waste, performing root cause analyses, and ensuring system health across a massive site portfolio.
Your proactive oversight will directly protect uptime and drive financial performance across the network.
Key Responsibilities
Energy Performance Assurance
- Monitor portfolio-wide energy performance using analytics and remote monitoring platforms.
- Identify sites operating outside approved design parameters, including excessive generator runtime, abnormal fuel consumption, and poor renewable energy performance.
- Prioritize performance exceptions based on operational and financial impact.
- Develop corrective action plans and drive issues through to verified resolution.
Root Cause Analysis
- Conduct structured Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on recurring operational issues and performance deviations.
- Differentiate between equipment failures, operational process failures, configuration errors, fuel losses, and infrastructure limitations.
- Identify systemic issues affecting multiple sites and recommend permanent corrective actions.
- Maintain Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) trends for recurring faults and monitor long-term reliability improvements.
Fuel Performance and Data Assurance
- Own fuel sensor validation and data integrity across the monitored portfolio.
- Investigate invalid or inconsistent fuel measurements.
- Reconcile fuel deliveries, site consumption, and billing data to identify discrepancies.
- Support the elimination of fuel overbilling through accurate telemetry validation and reporting.
- Prepare and share weekly reports on fuel sensor health, fuel drop events, and fuel data exceptions with the client and maintenance partners, ensuring clear ownership of required corrective actions.
Remote Monitoring Performance Management
- Perform routine portfolio health assessments to identify communication failures, missing telemetry, sensor abnormalities, and platform inconsistencies.
- Ensure remote monitoring assets continuously provide reliable operational intelligence.
- Validate incoming telemetry before analysis to maintain reporting accuracy.
Device Reliability Engineering
- Analyze hardware reliability trends by device type, deployment age, and environmental conditions.
- Monitor failure rates of remote monitoring equipment and supporting infrastructure.
- Measure and report improvements resulting from surge protection and other engineering enhancements.
- Recommend reliability improvements based on operational evidence.
Field Quality Assurance
- Develop and maintain field quality assurance standards for RMS installations and maintenance activities.
- Audit completed field work against established quality standards.
- Verify corrective actions before accepting work completion.
- Document non-conformances and recommend corrective actions where standards are not achieved.
Customer Performance Reporting
- Produce executive and operational reports highlighting portfolio performance, operational risks, and realized savings.
- Quantify operational improvements, including:
- Fuel savings
- Downtime avoided
- Overbilling eliminated
- Equipment reliability improvements
- Operational efficiency gains
- Present findings and recommendations to customer technical and management teams.
- Prepare and share daily system availability reports with the customer, highlighting platform uptime, communication gaps, monitoring exceptions, and required follow-up actions.
- Own the Return Material Authorization (RMA) process for faulty RMS equipment, including:
- Tracking failed devices
- Validating failure evidence
- Coordinating returns
- Sharing monthly RMA reports with management
Training and Technical Enablement
- Train customer personnel and field partners on remote monitoring best practices.
- Improve customer capability in interpreting telemetry data and identifying operational issues.
- Promote data-driven decision-making across customer operations.
- Provide in-country technical support to all relevant stakeholders, acting as the coordination link between field technicians, back office, and site management to ensure timely issue escalation, follow-up, and resolution.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates should have:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
