Background

The Pumping Mechanic will be responsible for the installation, operation, servicing, and repair of high-capacity water pumps and booster pumping units used within the irrigation system. The role will focus on preventive maintenance, mechanical fault diagnosis, equipment reliability, and supporting the commissioning of new pumping installations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, operate, service, and repair high-capacity water pumps and booster pumping units used in the irrigation system.
  • Carry out routine preventive maintenance and inspection of pump sets, motors, and associated mechanical components.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults, including bearings, seals, couplings, impellers, and alignment issues, promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs and spare-parts records for all pumping equipment.
  • Support the Senior Irrigation Engineer during the commissioning of new pumping installations.
  • Ensure pumps and pump houses are kept in a safe, well-maintained condition.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Certificate/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Plant Mechanics, or an equivalent trade qualification.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing high-capacity/industrial pumps.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and pump overhaul experience.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics.
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in field conditions.
