The Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) is a statutory institution owned by the two Governments of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Zambia on a 50/50 shareholding basis, with its registered head office being in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The Authority has two regional administrative centres in Mpika, Zambia and Dar es Salaam. Applications are invited from suitably qualified Tanzanian applicants to fill the vacant position of:

Job purpose

To support the implementation of TAZARA’s corporate communication and public relations functions through effective media engagement, stakeholder communication, brand management, and dissemination of information aimed at enhancing the organisation’s public image and visibility.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Coordinate media relations activities and facilitate accurate, timely, and professional dissemination of information to the public and stakeholders.
  • Draft, edit, and distribute press releases, speeches, feature articles, public notices, newsletters, and other communication materials in line with approved corporate standards.
  • Monitor media coverage and public opinion relating to TAZARA and prepare reports, briefs, and appropriate responses where necessary.
  • Support the implementation of corporate branding, marketing, publicity, and stakeholder engagement programmes across the region.
  • Coordinate public events, exhibitions, trade fairs, media briefings, official visits, and corporate social responsibility activities.
  • Manage digital communication platforms, including social media channels and online public engagement initiatives.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with government institutions, media houses, customers, development partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist in crisis communication management by supporting timely and coordinated communication responses during operational disruptions or incidents.
  • Ensure consistency in the application of TAZARA’s corporate identity and communication standards across regional operations.
  • Prepare periodic public relations and communication performance reports for management review.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Form IV/VI Secondary School Certificate.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Mass Communication, Journalism, Communication Studies, or a related field from a recognised institution.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools, social media management, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage crisis communication.
  • Possession of postgraduate qualifications will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of graphic design and multimedia tools will be an added advantage.

Experience needed

Minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience in public relations, corporate communication, media, or stakeholder engagement.

Any other provided details (e.g., benefits, work environment, team info, or additional notes)

Not more than 45 years of age.
