Job Summary
Dangote Industries Limited is seeking a qualified and experienced Medical Officer to oversee the delivery of comprehensive healthcare services to employees at its cement manufacturing plant in Mtwara, Tanzania.
The Medical Officer will be responsible for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of occupational and general health conditions affecting employees. The role also focuses on promoting workplace safety, employee wellness, and compliance with relevant regulatory standards.
The successful candidate will work closely with nurses, safety officers, healthcare staff, and management to maintain a healthy workforce and ensure effective medical support within the plant environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Medical Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
- Work closely with nurses and healthcare staff to ensure patients receive quality medical attention.
- Conduct medical examinations, diagnostic tests, and screenings for injuries, illnesses, and occupational diseases.
- Diagnose health conditions by evaluating symptoms and determining appropriate treatment plans.
- Prescribe medications and refer patients to specialized medical professionals when necessary.
- Provide emergency medical care for workplace accidents and injuries.
- Promote preventive healthcare and wellness programs tailored to industrial workers.
- Maintain regularly updated medical records, including evaluations, treatments, test results, and medications.
- Prescribe medications in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Inform patients about medication risks, possible complications, and drug interactions.
- Supervise and evaluate medical assistants and nursing staff to ensure compliance with regulations and effectiveness of care programs.
- Counsel patients on nutrition, fitness, hygiene, and lifestyle choices to promote long-term health.
- Monitor and manage healthcare risks specific to cement manufacturing, including:
- Respiratory conditions
- Musculoskeletal disorders
- Chemical exposure
- Other occupational health hazards
- Provide immediate care during workplace accidents.
- Coordinate evacuation when necessary.
- Liaise with external hospitals for emergency referrals and specialized treatment.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety laws.
- Develop and implement health awareness campaigns and wellness programs.
Academic Qualifications, Experience, and Competence
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
- Valid license to practice medicine in Tanzania.
- Certification or training in occupational health will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of five (5) years of post-qualification experience.
- Strong knowledge of occupational health hazards, emergency medicine, and preventive healthcare.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
