Reports To: Piping Department / Construction Manager
Duty Station: Nyanzaga Site, Sengerema District
Job Overview
We are seeking qualified, experienced, and safety-conscious Pipe Fitters to join the Nyanzaga Project construction team.
The successful candidates will be responsible for laying out, assembling, installing, and maintaining high-pressure piping systems, pipelines, valves, and mechanical fittings used in mineral-processing plants and mining infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Piping Assembly & Fabrication
- Read and interpret piping isometric drawings, blueprints, and P&IDs.
- Interpret structural layout specifications.
- Plan piping routes and determine material requirements.
Fitting & Alignment
- Inspect, cut, thread, bevel, assemble, and align piping systems.
- Work with:
- Carbon steel.
- Stainless steel.
- HDPE piping.
- Prepare piping systems before welding or mechanical joining.
Site Preparation
- Select appropriate pipe sizes and types.
- Prepare flanges, valves, gaskets, supports, and hangers according to project specifications.
Equipment Operation
Safely operate relevant shop and field tools, including:
- Pipe cutters.
- Beveling machines.
- Grinders.
- Threading machines.
- Hydraulic benders.
- Hoisting equipment.
Hydrostatic & Pressure Testing
- Prepare pipe circuits for pressure, leak, and hydrostatic testing.
- Follow strict safety procedures during testing operations.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow company Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) requirements.
- Participate in daily Toolbox Talks.
- Conduct Risk Assessments and Job Safety Analyses (JSA) before starting work.
- Maintain safe working practices at all times.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
Applicants should have one of the following:
- VETA Trade Test Grade I.
- Certificate in Pipefitting.
- Certificate in Mechanical Fabrication.
- Certificate in Plumbing.
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience
- 2–3 years of experience as a Pipe Fitter.
- Experience on large-scale industrial construction projects is preferred, particularly:
- Mining.
- Oil & Gas.
- Process plants.
- Heavy industry.
Technical Skills
- Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, and HDPE piping systems.
- Ability to independently read and work from piping isometric drawings and spool sheets.
- Familiarity with:
- ASME B31.3.
- ASME B31.4.
- AWS standards.
- Competence in flanged joints and bolt-torquing procedures.
- Experience with valve installation.
Additional Requirements
- OSHA/HSE safety training is highly advantageous.
- Training in Working at Heights and Confined Space Entry is an added advantage.
- Functional working knowledge of English, particularly for reading technical manuals and drawings.
