The Occupational Health Nurse role is essential in promoting and protecting the health of employees working in the mining environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering occupational healthcare services, responding to medical emergencies, implementing workplace health programs, and ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
The Occupational Health Nurse will play a vital role in safeguarding employee health by providing medical care, conducting health assessments, and implementing occupational health programs. The role also involves maintaining health records, supporting wellness initiatives, and collaborating with other departments to ensure a safe and healthy workplace.
- Conduct regular employee health assessments and medical examinations
- Provide medical treatment and emergency care when required
- Develop and implement occupational health and safety programs
- Maintain confidential health records and ensure compliance with applicable regulations
- Provide guidance on health-related issues and preventive healthcare measures
- Collaborate with safety officers to promote and maintain a safe working environment
- Participate in employee wellness and health promotion initiatives
- Utilize Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and occupational health software for data entry, reporting, and analysis
- Prepare incident reports and health statistics using computer applications
- Monitor health trends and recommend preventive interventions to improve employee well-being
Qualifications
Candidates for this role should possess professional nursing qualifications with specialized training in occupational health. The position requires strong clinical skills, knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations, and the ability to respond effectively to medical emergencies in a mining environment.
- Registered Nurse with specialized training in Occupational Health
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a similar role
- Valid nursing license
- Strong understanding of occupational health and safety regulations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in English language communication
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience using Electronic Health Record (EHR) or occupational health management systems
- Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Ability to analyze health data, identify trends, and recommend preventive measures
- Knowledge of health risk assessment methodologies and fitness-for-duty evaluations
- Experience working with diverse and multicultural teams
- Strong decision-making skills, particularly during medical emergencies in remote locations
- Familiarity with Tanzanian occupational health legislation and mining industry health standards
