Descriptions
In consultation with doctors, the Nursing Manager supervises all patient care as well as acting as line manager to the other nurses and nurse assistants on the team. It is a role that requires leadership ability and advanced nursing skills
Responsibilities
Patient Care:
- Actively engage in direct nursing duties to ensure hands-on involvement in patient care
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients based on their individual needs.
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately, following established protocols and dosage calculations by and/or as prescribed by LHC Medical Doctor.
- Ensure daily patient rounds in the inpatient unit, review health statuses, conduct care assessments, and maintain overall orderliness within the team
- Assure maintenance of medical records and confidential treatment of patient information
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement care plans.
- Supervise the care of pre and postoperative patients
- Consistently provide feedback to the Medical Director on clinical issues and patient management to enhance patient care through continuous improvement in clinical practices and team management.
- Inspect the wards regularly for compliance with policy and procedure, regulations, standards, and take corrective action when violations occur.
- Adhere to legal and ethical standards of nursing practice
Leadership and Supervision
- Maintain established hospital policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety and environmental,and infection control.
- Conduct regular departmental meetings to foster collaboration among the nursing team, facilitating effective communication, and promoting information exchange
- Actively engage in management meetings, contributing insights and recommendations to enhance the overall efficiency and performance of the nursing department.
- Supervise the coordination of the surgical team, ensuring proper sorting for surgeries, and oversee the preparation and post-surgical arrangements in the operating theater to maintain order and efficiency.Highlight the critical importance of adherence to time and time-out procedures for the safe and effective execution of surgical processes
- Compile key points and share insights with the administrator and medical director regarding the surgical procedures to facilitate a debrief, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes continuous
- Coordinate and participate in CNE (Continuing Nursing Education) to maintain licensure and enhance clinical skills.
- Supervise training for nursing staff on proper usage of biomedical equipment to ensure proficiency and adherence to protocols, promoting optimal device utilization
- Conduct regular performance evaluations for nursing staff and provide constructive feedback
- Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Administrative
- Identify areas for cost savings and explore opportunities to generate income within the healthcare operations
- Prepare budgets, ensure efficient personnel utilization, and promote cost-effective use of supplies and equipment.
- Participate in inspection processes with governmental agencies and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
- Participate in communication with the DNO (District Nursing Officer) and attend meetings led by the Regional Medical Officer, the District Medical Officer, or the Ministry of Health when required
- Manage the departmental staff attendance ROTAs to ensure operational efficiency at minimum cost.
- Notify the Director regarding any disciplinary issues in the department
- Oversee and ensure a clean and organized work environment by coordinating nursing staff to manage leaning tasks, restock consumables, and maintain the cleanliness of equipment. Ensure the availability of necessary items for seamless operations within the nursing department
- Work with line departments to ensure that the Nursing station and working environment are conducive to work performance.
- Take a proactive role in managing biomedical equipment breakdowns within the nursing environment ensuring staff and patient safety while minimizing organizational losses
- Coordinate with the Housekeeping department to ensure all areas of the health centre are in clean and coordinate with the Housekeeping department to ensure all areas of the health centre are in clean and well-maintained condition
Requirements
Nursing experience, with a preference for a focus on leadership and management
