The Medical Officer is responsible for providing comprehensive primary and secondary medical care to patients. This includes diagnosis, treatment, patient management, and performing surgical procedures within their scope of practice.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily ward rounds, reviewing patient progress, and adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses, injuries, and infections.
- Perform emergency medical procedures including resuscitation, suturing, and fracture management.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests (laboratory, radiology) to confirm diagnoses.
- Prescribe medication and monitor patient responses, adjusting dosages as required.
- Supervise and mentor Clinical Officers, Interns, and Nursing staff.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient medical records.
- Participate in the hospital’s on-call rota for emergency coverage.
- Conduct health education sessions for patients and families regarding disease prevention and management.
- Support the implementation of public health programs (e.g., immunization, HIV/TB care).
- Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, safety standards, and infection prevention measures.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB/MD).
- Registration: Valid practicing license from the relevant Medical Council.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of post-internship experience.
- Skills: Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and ability to work under pressure.
