MEDICAL ATTENDANT

Number of Positions: 4
Duty Station: Ilasi Hospital, Vwawa-Mbozi, Songwe

Job Purpose

The Medical Attendant will provide essential support in the delivery of patient care, ensuring that patients are assisted safely and respectfully while supporting nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals in the smooth operation of hospital services.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living and basic care as directed by healthcare professionals.
• Receive, guide, and assist patients within the hospital.
• Assist in transferring and transporting patients safely.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of patient care areas.
• Assist healthcare staff during patient care and procedures as directed.
• Help ensure patients are comfortable and their basic needs are attended to.
• Observe patients and promptly report any changes or concerns to the responsible healthcare professional.
• Assist with preparation of patient care areas and basic equipment.
• Support infection prevention and control measures.
• Handle patient property and information responsibly and confidentially.
• Maintain good communication and respectful relationships with patients and their relatives.
• Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor within the scope of the position.

Qualifications and Experience

• Holder of a recognized qualification in Medical Attendant/Health Attendant or a related healthcare field.
• Relevant experience in a hospital or healthcare facility will be an added advantage.
• Knowledge of basic patient care and infection prevention practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a healthcare team.

• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays where required.
