Mkulazi Holding Company Limited (MHCL) is a joint venture company owned by the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and Tanzania Prisons Service. The company is engaged in the production of quality sugar and related downstream products including bio-ethanol, particle boards, and pulp. MHCL is currently implementing a major sugar production project at Mbigiri Estate in Kilosa District, Morogoro Region, with a target production capacity of 50,000 metric tons of sugar annually once fully operational.

The company is inviting qualified, experienced, competent, and dedicated Tanzanians to apply for the position of Mechanical Technician – Mills. The successful candidate will report directly to the Senior Mechanical Technician – Mills and will support the maintenance, repair, and efficient operation of mechanical equipment within the sugar processing plant.

Responsibilities or duties

The role involves carrying out routine maintenance activities, troubleshooting mechanical faults, and supporting repair works to ensure machinery and equipment operate efficiently and safely. The candidate will also participate in installation activities, planned shutdown maintenance, and workshop operations while maintaining high safety and housekeeping standards.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out routine maintenance and repair of mills, conveyors, gearboxes, and other mechanical equipment
  • Assisting in troubleshooting mechanical faults and conducting corrective maintenance
  • Performing fitting, welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication works
  • Conducting machine inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of components
  • Participating in installation and commissioning of new mechanical equipment
  • Assisting in maintaining maintenance records and completed work reports
  • Observing safety procedures and promoting safe working practices
  • Reporting equipment defects and potential failures to supervisors
  • Participating in planned shutdown maintenance and equipment overhauls
  • Ensuring proper use and maintenance of tools and workshop facilities
  • Maintaining cleanliness and good housekeeping within work areas
  • Performing other lawful duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Candidates applying for this position should possess strong technical knowledge in industrial mechanical maintenance together with practical experience in handling heavy industrial machinery, preferably within sugar manufacturing environments.

Experience needed

Minimum of five (5) years working experience in industrial mechanical maintenance

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related technical field from a recognized institution
  • Experience working in sugar mills or manufacturing industries will be an added advantage

  • Strong teamwork, discipline, and problem-solving abilities
