Job Purpose
To lead and manage Quality Engineering practices across Agile delivery teams by embedding quality throughout the software development lifecycle, ensuring comprehensive test coverage, driving test automation, integrating quality controls within CI/CD pipelines, and providing objective quality evidence that supports Definition of Done (DoD), release readiness, and production stability.
The role is responsible for institutionalizing an automation-first quality culture that prevents defects early, improves delivery efficiency, and enhances customer experience through reliable and high-quality software solutions.
Principle Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation and continual improvement of Quality Engineering practices across Agile delivery squads.
- Establish and promote engineering-led quality controls throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), ensuring quality activities are integrated into Agile planning, delivery, testing, and release processes, and driving quality engineering maturity in alignment with organizational quality standards and objectives.
- Oversee planning, coordination, and execution of functional, integration, system, regression, and end-to-end testing activities, ensuring adequate test coverage for all approved business requirements and change requests.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate automated quality controls within CI/CD pipelines, ensuring quality gates, automated validations, and testing checkpoints are embedded in delivery pipelines.
- Develop and execute test automation strategies to improve efficiency, repeatability, and quality assurance effectiveness, while championing automation-first testing practices across applications and platforms.
- Drive adoption of automated testing frameworks covering functional, API, integration, performance, and regression testing, ensuring automated test suites are maintained, optimized, and aligned with evolving business requirements.
- Promote shift-left testing practices to detect and prevent defects early in the software development lifecycle and support continuous testing capabilities that enable faster and more reliable releases.
- Monitor testing progress and address quality risks that may impact delivery timelines or production readiness, ensuring test execution outcomes are accurately reported and communicated to stakeholders.
- Oversee defect identification, triage, prioritization, tracking, and resolution processes, ensuring critical defects and quality risks are effectively managed before deployment to production.
- Monitor defect trends and recommend corrective and preventive actions to improve product quality, driving root cause analysis initiatives to reduce defect leakage into production environments.
- Provide objective quality evidence to support Definition of Done (DoD), release readiness assessments, and release certification activities, while supporting Agile squads in implementing best practices related to software quality and testing.
- Review testing outcomes, quality metrics, coverage reports, and defect status before production deployments, ensuring quality criteria are achieved before releases progress through defined quality gates.
- Participate in release governance forums and provide recommendations on deployment readiness.
- Establish and monitor Quality Engineering metrics, KPIs, and performance indicators, analysing quality trends and providing actionable insights to improve testing effectiveness and software reliability.
- Prepare and present quality reports, dashboards, and status updates to management and relevant stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, automation enhancement, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Work closely with Product Owners, Scrum Teams, Architects, DevOps Engineers, Business Analysts, and Release Management teams to ensure quality objectives are achieved, while facilitating knowledge sharing, coaching, and mentoring on quality engineering principles and automation practices.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
- Professional certifications in Software Testing, Quality Engineering, Agile, DevOps, Scrum, SAFe, or related disciplines will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 7 years' experience in Software Testing, Quality Assurance, or Quality Engineering.
- At least 3 years in a leadership or management role overseeing quality engineering and testing functions.
- Professional certifications in Software Testing, Quality Agile, DevOps, or related disciplines will be an added advantage.
- Proven experience in test automation, Agile delivery environments, and CI/CD implementation.
- Demonstrated managing experience enterprise-scale software testing and quality assurance activities.
- Strong understanding of functional, integration, system, regression, API, performance, and end-to-end testing methodologies.
- Experience integrating automated testing frameworks, quality gates, and validation controls within CI/CD pipelines to support continuous testing and delivery.
