About the Role

The Lodge Manager is the operational leader of Enkare Emmanyata Lodge, responsible for ensuring that every aspect of the guest experience, team performance, and lodge operations reflects the Enkare standard of excellence.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a visible presence throughout the property. The successful candidate will oversee daily operations, inspire and develop teams, maintain operational excellence, ensure financial performance, and create exceptional guest experiences while fostering a culture of hospitality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Guest Experience

  • Oversee the complete guest journey, from pre-arrival communication through post-departure follow-up.
  • Ensure every department consistently delivers the Enkare guest experience standards.
  • Personally welcome arriving guests and bid farewell to departing guests whenever possible.
  • Resolve guest concerns promptly, professionally, and with genuine care.
  • Review guest profiles, preferences, and special requests prior to arrival.
  • Monitor and respond to online guest reviews in accordance with Enkare's brand standards.

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team across all lodge departments.
  • Conduct daily operational briefings to ensure alignment across teams.
  • Oversee staff scheduling, shift coordination, and operational handovers.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching and development opportunities.
  • Identify high-potential employees and support succession planning.
  • Manage employee relations and disciplinary matters in accordance with company policies and Tanzanian labour regulations.

Financial Management

  • Review daily operational revenue and expenditure reports.
  • Monitor occupancy levels, operational costs, and departmental budgets.
  • Approve purchases within delegated authority and escalate major expenditures when required.
  • Prepare weekly operational reports and monthly financial summaries for senior leadership.
  • Monitor budget performance and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
  • Oversee service charge calculations and distributions in accordance with company policy.

Operations & Property Management

  • Ensure all lodge facilities, accommodation, vehicles, and equipment are maintained to luxury hospitality standards.
  • Conduct regular property inspections to identify maintenance and operational requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, security, and environmental standards.
  • Manage supplier and contractor relationships to ensure consistent service delivery.
  • Maintain all required operating licences, permits, insurance, and statutory compliance.
  • Lead emergency response procedures and coordinate incident management when required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in Hospitality Management, Tourism Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience managing a lodge, luxury camp, resort, or hotel, preferably within East Africa.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams of 15 or more employees.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, revenue analysis, occupancy reporting, and profit and loss management.
  • Experience using Property Management Systems (Cloudbeds experience is an advantage).
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Additional international languages are an added advantage.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving licence.
  • Knowledge of, or genuine interest in, Maasai culture and the Lake Manyara tourism destination.
