Background
Dar es Salaam Tumaini University (DarTU) is undergoing strategic re-engineering and rebranding to align with emerging developments in journalism and mass communication, legal education, language and communication skills and library and information studies.
As part of this transformation, DarTU aims to strengthen its academic and technological capacity to address emerging trends and to deliver innovative and industry-responsive academic programs.
In pursuit of this goal, DarTU seeks to recruit qualified, dynamic, and proactive candidates for the following positions:
Lecturer in Library and Information Studies — 2 posts
School: School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SoHSS)
Qualifications and experience
- Possession of Masters degree, Bachelor of Arts degree and a PhD in Library and Information Studies, Library Science, Information Management, Records and Archive Administration, or Information Studies or any related field from accredited higher learning institutions.
- A GPA of at least 4.0 out of 5.0 or a B+ score in Master’s Degree and a GPA of at least 3.5 out of 5.0 in Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent.
- Must have at least 3 years of relevant work experience in teaching and research.
- Qualified candidates must be able to teach Library and Information Studies at postgraduate and undergraduate levels.
- Expertise in teaching, participation in relevant research and publications.
Preferred areas of specialization include:
- Library and Information Studies.
- Library Science.
- Information Studies.
- Information Systems.
- Knowledge Management.
- Information Systems Analysis.
- Information Management.
- Records and Archive Management.
- Administration and Information Science.
Strong command of spoken and written English is essential.
Duties and responsibilities
- Plan and deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions.
- Lead the development and revision of course content and assessments to ensure alignment with industry trends and academic standards.
- Prepare, administer, and grade assessments, quizzes, and exams; provide constructive feedback to students.
- Conduct and publish independent or collaborative research.
- Supervise and mentor postgraduate and undergraduate students in research projects, theses, and dissertations.
- Provide academic guidance and mentorship to students in their studies and career development.
- Engage in continuous professional development through workshops, seminars, and conferences.
- Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines in research initiatives, course development, and academic events.
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the relevant university authorities.
Remuneration
