The Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) is the national regulatory authority responsible for ensuring the safe use of atomic energy and radiation technologies in Tanzania. Its mandate includes protecting workers, patients, the public, and the environment through strict monitoring, inspection, and enforcement of radiation safety standards.

TAEC is currently recruiting 5 Laboratory Technicians on an internship basis to support laboratory operations linked to radiation analysis, monitoring, and quality control. These positions are available across multiple locations in Tanzania and are intended to strengthen technical capacity in laboratory-based radiation safety work.

The role focuses on conducting laboratory testing of radiation-related samples, maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment, and ensuring accurate documentation of results. Technicians will also support radiation monitoring activities and ensure all laboratory work complies with established safety protocols for handling radioactive materials.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing laboratory analysis and testing of radiation samples
  • Maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment
  • Recording and reporting test results accurately
  • Following strict safety procedures when handling radioactive materials
  • Supporting radiation monitoring and quality control activities

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • FTC or Diploma in Laboratory Technology, Laboratory Sciences and Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or a related field
  • Registration with the relevant professional board in the respective discipline
  • Good communication and report writing skills
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Performing laboratory analysis and testing of radiation samples
  • Maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment
  • Recording and reporting test results accurately
  • Following strict safety procedures when handling radioactive materials
  • Supporting radiation monitoring and quality control activities
  • Good communication skills
