Job Description

MSA Laboratories (T) Limited is a highly respected provider of geochemical and mineral analytical laboratory services in Tanzania. With a strong commitment to safety, quality, technical excellence and continuous improvement, we support the mining and exploration industry through reliable and high-quality analytical services.

As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a competent, experienced and results-driven professional to join our dynamic team in the position of LABORATORY ASSISTANT:

Location: Tanzania

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in loading and offloading of samples, sample rejects and lab splits.
  • Prepare samples for analysis including sorting, drying, crushing, pulverization
  • Conducting analysis of samples
  • Perform tasks in accordance with documented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) or recognized standard reference methods.
  • Report any deviation from documented procedures to the Production Coordinator.
  • Inform the Laboratory Supervisor of any nonconforming event related to customer samples, or other departmental operations.
  • Inform the Sample Preparation Coordinator of any unsafe conditions within the department.
  • Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment.
  • Weighing samples.
  • Housekeeping and proper handling of waste.
  • Follow all HSE protocols and ensure lead control measures are followed
  • Monitor Prep QC results and report all deviations to Laboratory Supervisor.
  • Assist with the coordination of sample movement between different lab areas
  • Communicate general laboratory issues to the Laboratory Supervisor as appropriate.
  • Some lifting is required, up to 25kg.
  • Perform other duties as required by management.

REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Familiarity with Assay laboratory operations
  • Excellent English and Swahili language skills, both written and verbal
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments
  • MS Office proficiency
  • Strong communication skills

Training & Education Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree majoring in either chemistry, chemical and processing engineering, metallurgy, laboratory technology or any other related discipline from an accredited institution

Experience Required:

  • 1-2 years’ experience in assay labs at a commercial mineral laboratory or mining assay laboratory
  • Well versed in the operation of LIMS.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience working in multinational and culturally diverse environments
  • Female candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
