Job Purpose

The Lab Technician: Micro will define, develop and implement optimal brewery-wide microbiological standards and work practices to ensure compliance with microbiological process and product specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out sampling according to manualized methods.
  • Identify, verify and handle samples to maintain their integrity.
  • Prepare and dispatch samples where necessary according to prescribed methods.
  • Prepare relevant apparatus, equipment and reagents according to manualized procedures.
  • Perform analyses using fundamental laboratory techniques and practices.
  • Generate accurate results within specified timelines.
  • Record and report results according to standard manuals.
  • Identify nonconformances.
  • Follow out-of-control procedures when required.
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment according to manualized methods.
  • Adhere to equipment calibration frequencies.
  • Ensure calibration records are available and updated.
  • Comply with PPE requirements.
  • Identify and take action on unsafe conditions and work practices.
  • Handle chemicals and reagents according to prescribed procedures.
  • Store, handle and dispose of hazardous substances according to procedures.
  • Follow documented laboratory safety rules, guides and practices.
  • Report and address incidents according to established procedures.
  • Adhere to housekeeping schedules.
  • Achieve VPO targets and Quality KPI and PI targets for the site.

Key Attributes and Competencies

Candidates should have:

  • Good knowledge of microbiological laboratory systems, processes and analyses.
  • Experience applying problem-solving techniques and statistics.
  • Good understanding of HACCP, GMP standards and CIP requirements.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Good overall knowledge of AB InBev manufacturing processes and philosophies.
  • Proven ability to integrate and facilitate multidisciplinary groups of specialists and functions.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good auditing skills.
  • Knowledge of information systems.
  • Strong analytical ability.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology or equivalent.
  • 3–6 months of on-the-job training.
  • 2–3 years of experience in laboratory, brewing or packaging operations.
